My Grandpa who LOVED Bama and Bear Bryant would have been 99 on August 1st.

Grew up watching a lot of Bama games @ Gramps house as a kid.

If he was like a lot of folks his age, a lot of the stories weren't directly about football.

I knew a woman who played a varsity sport at Bama back in the day on a football scholarship courtesy of Bear...back in the pre-limit days.

The number of business deals in the state that had his name on it would boggle the mind of the uninitiated. It was definitely a different time, and love him or hate him, we won't see anything like him in our lifetimes.

It was a sad day in our household the day the Bear died. My dad and I watched events unfold on TV in regard to the funeral procession.

Then I recall watching that year's Super Bowl, and they had a moment of silence for the Bear.

The stories are great, but I wish I would've been able to see him with my own eyes walk the sidelines at Alabama.
