from him i expect trash like that but from you romeo i'm shocked.
i favored a balanced form of action based on a good farm system and not being afraid of participating in the free agent/trade market. and that's what we did

You don't out and say it, but you've been in favor of LOTS of moves that would have required the blowing up the farm system b/c you want them to win that year, b/c you "want to see them win one in my time"

You've called for some awful trades is all I'm saying. You're insistence of trading for Upton being very questionable.

Let go of the upton thing. Especially for those players.

what would your outfield look like next season if the Rangers choose to let Hamilton and possibly Cruz leave in the off-season? and how crippled would our offense be without their bats missing from the center of the order?

Cruz bats sixth. Martin will be up next year, and Cruz doesn't hit FA till 2014. Of Texas FO is prepared to let Hamilton walk I'm sure they already have a plan.

Weren't you in favor of acquiring Jimenez last year?

Cruz is under team control until the year after next

I'm not against an Upton move but its one of those moves that could either be counter-productive in terms of prospect loss (giving up too much and he's not the player we hoped for) or a major steal b/c prospect cost was low (b/c of his up and down career) and he performs like we're accustomed

Some sort of contingency is going to have to be made for Hamilton b/c he is gone after this year, unless his demands come WAY down (which I doubt they will),

People go into 2 month slumps but they are people like Yorvit Torrealba, every AB Hamilton has right now is just knocking huge amounts of money off his next contract b/c he's too stubborn to make adjustments ANY ML hitter has to make over the course of a season

I'd explore FA next year or possibly a stopgap measure to give L. Martin more time, if thats even needed, the Rangers are doing him any favors by just banishing him to the ML bench, he needs ABs and he's not getting them here

maybe it is and maybe it isn't. he is young and is considered a baseball talent that is under contract for the next 2-4 years. and the Rangers might consider not signing either Hamilton or Cruz which weakens the team's outfield and offense next season. using an outfield next season built around Gentry, Martin & Upton gives us a very good defensive outfield and they may not replace the offense of Hamilton & Cruz completely but it would still be a potent team.

i'm not insisting on anything. i made a suggestion of some options that could help the team now and in the future.

hindsight is a wonderful thing. at the time he seemed to be a quality starter and i did think the Rangers should look hard at him. to bad i don't have the ability to be like you and use hindsight to judge

Come on, you didnt even need hindsight on that one, he had been terrible since the 2nd half the year before,

Just glad the Indians got hosed on that and not us

Nope, Hamilton this year and Cruz after next

So we have to do something in that regard starting pretty soon, if not by the trade deadline than this offseason for sure

Despite the fact that the team's offense has been the worst in the majors over the past month, I still say the Rangers need to trade for an ace pitcher instead. Pitching wins championships. The Rangers currently have a total of 2 definite starters for the playoff rotation- Harrison and Darvish. The rest of the starters on the roster are huge question marks at this point:

Colby- normally a great playoff starter, but now back on the DL for the 2nd time this month with arm problems ("tendinitis"). I really fail to see how anyone could just assume he will be totally fine and ready to go in October. Maybe he will, but the arm could continue to give him problems and he could be shut down for the season. At any rate, he is a question mark as of the trade deadline.

Oswalt- same with Colby, only the problem is his back. He's been dealing with a bad back for 2 years now. Another injury-related question mark.

Holland- has always been inconsistent and always a bit of a question mark.

Feliz- only a handful of starts under his belt this year, a fairly significant arm injury, and now two poor rehab starts. The reports say he just doesn't look right. Plus there's the lack of playoff mentality aspect... we saw that last year. Yet another question mark.

You can never have enough good pitching. You never hear an analyst say "yeah, they've got 6 great starters and that's going to be a real problem for them". The Giants beat the Rangers in 2010 with mediocre yet timely hitting and a beastly rotation. Plus I do think at least a few of the Rangers bats will come around. Maybe Young still tanks it and maybe Josh's problems linger. But it's a good bet that one or more of Kinsler, Cruz, and Napoli get going on a tear.

Long story short, since the decision to trade must be made by next Tuesday, I'd rather bet on a resurgence from a healthy Kinsler, Young, Hamilton, Cruz, and/or Napoli than consistent health from Colby and Oswalt and performance from Holland and Feliz.

And Justin Upton is vastly overrated. He's his brother part II, only minus some strikeouts. There's a reason why the Dbacks are selling a 24-year old who is under contract until 2015 at very reasonable terms. He has 4 years under his belt and is a .275/20/80/20 player. That is solid but not worth what the Rangers would have to give up.

Hamels/Lee (whichever Philly decides not to keep) would be my first choice. Greinke would still be my number two choice, even with his noted anxiety issues. Josh Johnson would be my third choice, followed I guess by Garza (not all that high on him though).

I thought Detroit made a very nice trade today, getting a very good and underrated #2 in Anibal Sanchez and a very solid middle infielder in Omar Infante.

WHy on earth would you want Josh Johnson, this guy has NEVER been able to stay healthy

Umm, yeah he has. You're focusing too much on his last few seasons. He was healthy to start his career and he's been healthy this year. He also seemed pretty healthy in 2009 when he went 15-5 with 191 K.

That was a good deal for Detroit. Just watched Sanchez pitched against the Pirates. Damn that was fast

7 year career, only once has he pitched over 200 innings (his ONE healthy season), one season where he missed time and pitched 183, and one in which he pitched 157 (might count this one as healthy, it was his 1st full season)

This year he's been healthy but is still obviously coming back from his last surgery, wouldn't touch this guy with a 10 foot pole
