So? They don't always get it right as you yourself are saying in this very thread. There's still no case for removing him from the hall. If you think there is, then make it.... and hahaha backatcha.

Just a thought.

There can only be 10 in the Hall of Fame by position. So a current HOFer can be knocked out if somebody more deserving comes along.

They will however always be known as a former Hall of Famer.

Sucky?

Sucky?

Yeah, it would make the enshrinement ceremony awkward. Everyone's speech would be like, "Now don't you kick me out in the future!"

Little doesn't belong period, imo. Swann is a bit different. He was fantastic in the post-season and it wasn't really his fault the Steelers were what they were, which I think is the reason his regular season numbers weren't more impressive.

But we don't give guys extra credit for what might have been had they played elsewhere, so I've no problem with saying he doesn't belong either.

It's odd how some guys seem to get in due primarily to their team's success (Swann) while others it seems get penalized for their team's success (Craig). Bradshaw v Anderson is a prime example. Anderson's numbers are much better across the board.. some much better.

Yeah, it's funny. Maybe voters feel like there are too many Niners already. Bengals rarely get enough respect, so that's maybe why Anderson isn't in. Anderson put up great numbers for his era, and with Bill Walsh as his QB coach, I think you could say that Anderson was one of the pioneers of the West Coast Offense, so he definitely should be considered a significant figure in football history.

We'd have a bunch of old timers sitting around wondering which one will get the axe this year. Yeah, that's sucky.

How many teams can...

QB...Joe Montana, Steve Young, Y.A,Title
RB....Joe Perry, Hugh McElhenny, John Henry Johnson, O.J.Simpson Frank Gore will be
WR....Jerry Rice, Terrell Owens, Randy Moss, Bob Hayes

All in the Hall of Fame, that;s 12 in just three positions.

OJ really? Here's what he did with the 49ers.

23 games (18 starts). 281 carries / 1,053 yards / 4 TD's / 3.7 average.

And Moss? Here's what he did with the 49ers.

16 games (2 starts). 28 cathes / 434 yards / 3 TD's. S.F. can't claim him.

Bob Hayes? His numbers as a 49ers.

4 games (3 starts). 6 cathes / 119 yards / no TD's.

So does that mean the Arizona Cardinals can claim Emmitt Smith?

His numbers in Dallas. 201 games (199 starts). 4,052 rushes / 17,162 yards / 153 TD's / 4.2 average
What he did in Arizona. 25 games (20 starts). 357 rushes / 1,193 yards / 11 TD's / 3.3 average

16 post season games, 48 receptions, 907 yards, 9 TD

Anderson strikes me as a real oversight and there aren't many QBs I can say that about. Hopefully he'll get in through the old timer committee while he's still around.

I hear ya, totally hear ya!

But.......when talking HOFers who played with the Niners, we have to include them.

Should be who did they enter the HOF as.

Simply too many there now, it should be just the elite of the elite.

Paul Hornung?

Paul Hornung?

They didn't call him the "golden boy" for nothing. He shouldn't have won the Heisman, much less been inducted to the pro football HOF.

You can't include those players. You have to go by the production they had while with the 49ers. Not what they did during their career. Montana made his name in SF. But his 4 rings don't carry over to what he did with KC.

I didn't start following sports until 1987, but I love history. I've only watched some highlights of Hornung and read about him. Vince Lombardi did call him the greatest player he's ever coached, so that's gotta count for something.

That Heisman BS should have been illegal. ridiculous!

His NFL numbers are not HOF caliber.

Ah....

Forrest Gregg
On Jan. 17, 1977, in my lead to a story about Bart Starr and Forrest Gregg being voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, I wrote that Vince Lombardi had called Gregg the best player he ever coached. I was 29 years old and had covered the Packers as a beat reporter for the Green Bay Press-Gazette for three seasons.Nov 19, 2020

So some debate there.

Hornung was a good multi talented player but no HOFer

I didn't realize he spent his final year in the league with the 49ers until I looked his stats up.
