Both these WR 's played in the 70's

A

3 pro bowls
1 All Pro
336 career receptions
5462 yards
51 TD

B

4 pro bowls
3 All Pro
501 receptions
8685 yards
62 TD

How can A be in the Hall of Fame while B isn't?

Actually A doesn't have HOF stats at all for his era. Ah.....did win the Cali State long jump, same HS as Tom Brady,

Bingo!!!!!

A WR in that era who never had a 1000 yard season in the HOF, just ain't right, Less of everything vs Cliff Branch who should be there.

Floyd Little a Hall of Famer, why?

Yup. Swann was also my guess. Big moments in the playoffs gives a player a big boost, especially in the Super Bowl. People will always remember that Swann catch were he leaps high into the air. Certainly, there are guys who produced more that should be in as well, like Cliff Branch. I think Roger Craig is also deserving.

Swann had one of the greatest moments in NFL history. Broadway Joe, in the HOF for pretty much winning one game. And I'm not trying to diminish in any way the significance of that game. But for his career he's below .500 (62-63-1) and has more int's (220) than td's (173).

And good call on Branch and Craig. I think both are deserving. Another guy I think belongs in the HOF is S.B. VII mvp Jake Scott.

Craig has over 13,000 all purpose yards and over 70 TD's, that is Hall of Fame stuff.

High school hurdler and he ran like one.

Yup, over 13,000 yards from scrimmage in his career, and when you add the postseason, it brings his totals to over 14,500 yards from scrimmage and 82 TD's for his career. It doesn't make sense that he isn't in the Hall of Fame. He's also the first player to have 1,000 yards receiving and 1,000 yards rushing in the same season.

I hear ya, and had forgotten about the first 1000/1000 season. Niner Joe Perry a HOF RB the first RB to have consecutive 1000 yards seasons.

The Niners also the only team to have three future HOFers all there together with Perry, Hugh McElhenny and John Henry Johnson, but most his career as Steeler;

Frank Gore a sure HOFer

Watters with almost 15,000 all purpose yards, over 90 TD's, yep, HOF. If Floyd Little is there, huh???

Can't see it for Ken Anderson, his numbers just don't do it and he never won the big one.

I do think there are too many in the Hall of Fame. What is Paul Hornung doing there, he never had a 1000 yard season. Floyd Little....why? Tommy McDonald???? Lynn Swann, hell no!

If they tore it down and started over, the first 10 they gotta have?

It's odd how some guys seem to get in due primarily to their team's success (Swann) while others it seems get penalized for their team's success (Craig). Bradshaw v Anderson is a prime example. Anderson's numbers are much better across the board.. some much better.

When Tommy McDonald retired he was top 3 all time in several receiving categories. You have to account for era.

The reason Swann made it and Branch didnt is that HOF voters quickly realized how dumb it was to put a slightly above average player into the HOF just because he played on a great team.

Using Swann as the measuring bar for HOF credentials there would be probably about 50-100 more people players in the HOF.

Just using the 90's Cowboys as an example, guys like Moose, Jay Novecik, and pretty much their entire OL would have the Swann credentials to get into the HOF. It's why once they let in Swann they stopped and started to understand what a mistake it was.

HOF players should have been more or less HOF players no matter what team they played on. Being slightly better than average and being lucky enough to be on a dominant team should automatically put a player into the HOF.

Cliff Branch career numbers totally dwarf what Swann put up. Branch a three time All Pro, is was not....slightly above average.

I don't need to. He made 6 pro bowls so he was clearly considered one of them. But I know who they were. In fact, I watched a couple of them for every week several years as a Skins season ticket holder in the 60s through the 72 season. When he retired he was top 3 in catches, yards and TD receptions. There's really no case for removing McDonald from the HOF.
