I remember a few years ago Gainey called out the fans who were booing one of their own (Brisebois I think). The fans seemed to respond pretty well to that. Hopefully for Carey's sake the same happens after his teammates jumped to his defence. In fairness I suspect that its really just the vocal minority doing the booing and that a lot of Habs fans hate it as much as anyone.

It basically all stems from the fact that Toews was not the best player in the Stanley Cup Finals.

If any player in the history of the NHL deserved to be booed by his own franchise it was Brisebois. That guy sucked.

I disagree. I do not think it has been documented at all the that pressure has gotten to him. I have never read any accounts from a credible journalist with examples of how the pressure has gotten to him. Unless you count message boards like these which have pretty much stated the pressure was too great after ever bad game he had starting in his rookie year. Thats really the only thing that bugs me about this topic, message board posters have been claiming the pressure has gotten to him for years but with no evidence. Bad game = too much pressure! I have read idle speculation from journalists that do not even cover the team that Price has cracked, but again I have read that for years.

I am not a fan of booing players but after a team trades a popular goalie who took the team to the finals then their new starter plays two terrible (not just bad) games I am not surprised. Under similar circumstances I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of other cities would do the same.

If Price plays better the booing stops. Breezeby actually improved after Gainey's talk so its hard to say what stopped the booing.
