Well, looks like in January of 2015 I'm getting a PS4. I'll buy one just for this game.
David Sears, the original writer of the original SOCOM's on PS2...the good ones...has created a new studio to go back to his roots. Since Sony bought out and killed Zipper interactive, and their last attempts at SOCOM on the PS3 were shitty (to be kind) he decided to go back to what people liked in those first SOCOM games and started a studio. I missed out on their kickstarter, but sounds like the game is coming along nicely.
Considering SOCOM: Combined Assault is the game my buddy and I are still trying to find something comparable too, this might be out best bet. To this day we still haven't found a good FPS/TPS, online co-op, free roam game. Borderlands 1 and 2 were pretty darn close, but they were crazy over the top unrealistic.
So if you are like me and loved the first generation of SOCOM when David was writing them, get ready...in a year.
