My gut tells me its going to be a let down as well. Wade Phillips is the best option period. I don't understand how this is even a debate. He has been successful everywhere he has gone. He has the results to prove it.
The fact that we passed on him once was a disaster and if we do it again, Gruden should be fired. The fact that Phillips has any interest in coming here is a miracle. We cannot afford to make the same mistake twice.
Phillips should be the only candidate we talk about at this point. Interview him and offer him the job on the spot. Its simply a no brainer at this point.
Gus would be a good second choice but keep in mind in 4 years, 2 of those years, the Seahawks were a disaster on defense and 2 of the years, they were fantastic. There is no comparison resume wise with Brantly or Phillips.
Wade will be 70 years old this year. We are likely going to add alot of youth onto our defense over the next two seasons. You really think putting Grampa out there with a bunch of College kids who just got paid is a no brainer??
I dont doubt that Wade has the mind for the job, but at what point does spending time with his Great Grandkids give a man pause as to how much longer he actually wants to work what should be a 24/7 365 job?? I would prefer to see us go with some one a little younger, and away from the 3-4 defense frankly.
So my list as it stands would be Williams, Wilkes, then Bradley. And Im not huge on Bradley because I think we need some one who gets the job on his qualifications first, not because he is buddies with the HC, GM and President of the team.
