You miss the point..respectfully.

What about multiple offense drunk drivers? What do "we" do about it? Suspend the license for life? Sure what good does it do?

The drunks still get behind the wheel hammered and kill people. What happens when they do kill someone? The get charged with Vehicular homicide which carry's a 20 year max term in prison. Yet on every TV station and on every sporting event the alcohol ads show us all how cool it is to drink. They show the super hot women and men with a Bud Light and laughing as they head home to bang all night long.

What are the statistics of drunk driving deaths versus gun related deaths per year?

What should we do about that?

Where is the national outrage about banning alcohol from all aspects of life?

What about tobacco? why is it not banned? It certainly kills more people per year then both alcohol and guns.

The list goes on and on but as previously stated the media has a hard on for gun related incidents.

Sigh. The same old arguments. Drinking and driving is certainly an issue. There are restraints and people who are dangerous (eg. previous offenders) are restricted from using a vehicle and in some cases from using alcohol. It's not perfect but the system HAS changed in response to alcohol related deaths. It does remain a problem.

The similarities with firearms ends there. Guns have no purpose but to kill or injure whereas alcohol has no such intended purpose. Gun control has changed remarkably little despite guns being used to kill thousands every year.

It's clear that you won't change your mind about guns being too prevalent in American society but demonizing alcohol is a poor, at best, contribution to the discourse.

The original article had NOTHING to do with alcohol or tobacco. Somehow comparing these two substances to guns is the message you draw out of 6 people being killed for no reason.

Good on you!!!

Did I say that?

No I did not. There are crazy people in this world and they come in all shapes and sizes. Have you ever seen a nationally printed event that showed a good law abiding person defending a police officer or his family??

I bet not. That is because the media will not report it or will do so on the back pages. Claim the American crap is so lame. We are all human being's.

I didn't say you did. My response was to KennyBanyeah who had sound and logical questions about your article which is a pretty terrible 'guns are good' example.

I am done here. I guess it is my bad for having this debate on a hockey forum and I apologize. I understand that a lot of people are anti gun. I can almost understand how some would say "Why do you need a AR 15" or many other weapons.

I will just leave it with this last thought.

Each and every week some of the most enjoyable times in my life are spent at rifle ranges..sometimes pistol shoots and sometimes just practice. A lot of times these times are spent with my entire family. My 2 girls love to shoot and are always asking to go. So when I see people just jump on the bandwagon and say guns are bad. I get pretty passionate about it.

I did not mean to offend anyone here but apparently I did. I meant no disrespect toward any of you. I will try and keep my gun loving thoughts to myself in the future.

Peace

Ummm... I 'm not American so I have no say in your gun laws but how does a gun owner killing a GUNman who has already GUNNED someone down (and 2 dogs) say anything good about a lack of serious gun control?

Without guns in all hands there would be one more innocent person and 2 dogs still enjoying their lives.

The issue is that criminals will still attain firearms on the streets/black market. Trying to restrict the right to a firearm from the everyday citizen will leave people defenseless. The day that guns just vanish from this planet is the day I will give up my guns. It's never going to happen.

That's been the primary push from many gun control advocates for years. Some of the items that should be basic common sense rules can't get past the NRA and the politicians they have in their pockets.

A few simple changes would make a big difference without infringing on the ability of law-abiding citizens to buy their guns.

If we make it easier to prosecute crooked dealers - those selling hundreds of guns to the same individual knowing full well that person is turning around and selling them out of the back of his car to people who can't pass a background check.

If we make it easier to prosecute people at gun shows who sell to people "under the table" because they know that person can't pass a background check.

Hell, even people on the terrorism watch list - who aren't allowed to get on a plane - can frequently buy a gun.

Update as of this morning also, CNN (citing an unnamed source) has a name for the gunman and indicates he's an ex-military guy who "may have been a white supremacist" and, according to eye-witnesses, had a 9/11 tattoo on his arm.

Obviously a lot of details yet to come, but it sounds like it could be a nut job who doesn't know the difference betweens Sikhs and Muslims.

If that is the case, then it is on the government. An eyebrow should be going up when someone is buying that much firearms. They shouldn't restriced from doing so, but the ATF should wait about a month after the purchase, then go and raid his house to see if all the serial #'s much up form the records to the guns and if any are missing without being reported missing, put his ass in the slammer for a loooooooooooong time.

I agree with you, but as the laws stand, they can't do that. Which is my exact point, is that something like that should be common sense, but it won't pass Congress because the NRA opposes it.

Fair enough. I will suspend myself before Elo comes and points out all the flaws in my posts

:P

Good night all. No disrespect was meant.

I would request you stop mentioning/slamming me when I'm not even in the thread. It's creepy. Thanks.

That goes without saying. What I get tired of is (the ones who survive at least) getting special treatment because they "aren't in their right mind".

Yeah, obviously. No one in their "right mind" goes and kills large numbers for any reason. Let alone a severe case of mistaken identity.

I wish they would take the dude who shot the Senator Lady and throw his ass into a wood chipper. Same with the Colorado guy.

The man who shot six people to death and wounded three others during a rampage at a Sikh temple in a Milwaukee suburb was an Army veteran who may have been a white supremacist, according to a law enforcement source involved in the investigation.

I would request that you do not troll me on every thread I comment on. You hold your end up and I will do the same.

I'll comment on threads I have interest in or feel I have something to add. You being in them or not has ZERO to do with it. I made no comments on this subject nor did I plan to. You on the other hand frequently mention me or criticize me when I'm not even involved. I DO frequently ignore them, but I'm tired of it. There's no bargain here. Comment on the topic. Not me. That's it. Pretty fucking simple.
