Ender Inciarte is going to Atlanta, plus additional prospects. Elite defense, and a 70 point jump in OPS from 2014 to 2015. 5.3 WAR player, only 25 years old. So Miller didn't come cheap. Doubt the D-Backs are done, Miller's cheap salary probably allows them to replace Inciarte in free agency or go after another starting pitcher, like Leake. With Tomas around, it will probably be the latter.

Wow, also going to Atlanta is last year's first overall pick Dansby Swanson and their 2nd overall prospect Aaron Blair. That is a massive haul. Like a Jose Fernandez haul.

Atlanta now has one HELL of a system. They are putting together a Huston-like push for '17 or '18

I hate to see the Snakes get these big names, but they are putting themselves in the Padre situation of last year.

They are winning the off-season, but at what cost?

That is a HUGE get by the Snakes. One good thing is that it probably takes them out of the running for Leake/Cueto/Maeta. Better chance the Giants get one of them.

I don't think it will, Miller will earn the minimum this year, then 4 years of arbitration. I think this keeps them right in the thick of the free agent market.

Yes. I've already heard comps to the Padres' offseason last year, but I like this much better. The Pads traded for broken hitters in a pitchers park, and they didn't have anything close to Greinke/Miller. The D-Backs have the makings of a great all around team. There were flaws with the Padres before it began.

I agree with this take. I feel like Arizona has had a hell of an offseason. If they get Leake too, watch out.

I felt that the Paaadres had a meh offseason last year.

Not sure if this has been addressed, but judging by the cost Az paid for Miller, I am glad we passed on it.

Or maybe I should say, I'm glad the Braves didn't say yes to any offer we may have made. Lol

True, that was a hell of a price to pay. Exciting offseason for Dbag fans though.

Johnson/Schilling redux. Criminy.

La Russa was also a great pick up for them.

3 team race no doubt about it. Right now maybe they are favorites if nothing else happens in LA or SF

Of course Padres went all in last year....you never know.

Always a team or two supposed to be contenders suck, and a team that's supposed to suck contends. After all the transactions we should try to guess who those are.

Funny how even w/o a salary cap mlb has more parity that the other sports.

Just look at the WS last year. Two "small market" teams (I know New York is not a "small market", but the Mets act like a "small market" team).

That said, the top 5-10 payroll teams are in the mix more than not. The Pirates, Padres, Astros, Royals, A's, etc simply can not compete on the same stage at the same consistency as the Yanks, Sox, Dodgers, Giants, etc.

THAT said, a cap just doesn't make sense in baseball. There are just too many different areas for a team to find a competitive advantage through $$ that do not include MLB payroll.

D-Backs have gone out and traded for Shelby Miller. Pollock is not involved in deal. My god, the D-Backs could be dangerous.

By most accounts, the Snakes got raped on the Miller deal.

Not sure I would go THAT far, but closer to a r*pe than a romantic snuggle on a cool winter's night...

cal, it looks like you called it on the D-Backs. They look very much like the 2016 version of the Padres, except they haven't started dumping anyone (yet).
