We did? Who would have thought that a good DC was on our staff all the time while putting out the 28th ranked defense on the field.

Please tell me if Manusky was a "good DC" why did he fail in his past 3 jobs? Did he ever have a top 10 defense in his 3 previous jobs as a DC?

If he truly was a good DC, why in heaven's name did we conduct a fruitless and time consuming search that wasted time?

This isn't adding up Skinsdad and you know it.

Come on Duke, you cant tell me you have never worked in a situation where one of the supervisors would be a better choice to lead the team than the Manager. Not saying Manusky is a slam dunk hire. But Wade wasnt coming here, or if he did it was because he didnt have another option. Bradley wasnt coming here unless it was his last choice. Pettine might have, but again you cant automatically dismiss this hire because you felt there were better options. If none of those guys actually wanted the job, but took it any way... how good a job do you think they would have done??

You are right Shark, I have been in a situation where a Sup would have been better than the Manager. I honestly think that Manusky is probably better than Barry.

My problem is that we had a chance to improve significantly and we didn't do it. There were better options on the table like I already mentioned and we went with him. We could have the #1 ranked defense next year...it could happen, you never know.

You have to admit that this whole process was strange and appeared disorganized to everyone. IF Manusky was the best person for the job, then why go through the dog and pony show? We also have to ask ourselves, if coaches are passing us over for teams that are dumpster fires (Rams and Chargers) something must be really bad here. SM MUST build a better defense. We can only pray the cap room goes to good use and that we finally use the first rounder on a defensive player for a change.

We never had a shot at Bradley he was going to follow that new head coach no matter where he landed. Who are the other guys are you talking about. Wade was not going to come here after being passed over last year for Barry. So who was really left? Rob Ryan joke. Petitne. Yes. That could of worked but Gruden like Munasky better.

You go through the D&P Show for two reasons.

1. What if you DO find some one better suited to take the job that also wants the job.

2. To reassure yourself that the guy you tapped for the internal promotion is actually the guy you want.

I been in the spot to promote some one to take the spot of some one I had to fire. You ALWAYS at least look at external candidates. Now you might not find what you want. And what you want might not want the job. But at the end of the day, it would have been a bad look to not at least interview outsiders before making this move.

How do we know it was a clusterfuck process? Just because they finally kept business in h ouse and there were no leaks as to what was happening? That is great news. We are finally acting like most successful franchises.

I wont say Im elated with the Munusky promotion. But Im good with it for these reasons.

1. He has very good knowledge of what we have on roster including guys who we DIDnt see on the field this year like AJ Francis, Gallette, BAtes, Stevens, LAnier, Mbu.

2. During the critical player evaluation process, he wont need to catch up on who we got, cause he should already know who we got.

3. He got better production out of our OLBs.

4. Most key, he is known for an attacking style of defense. I know BArry and Haslett wanted to run an attacking style, but go back and look at the colts and Niners defenses he ran. Boy aint afraid to bring it even if he doesnt have a JJ Watt on the roster.

So the real question becomes, do we switch to a base 4-3, or do we give him a few legit pieces to run a 3-4.

I have said a handful of times that Pettine, Pagano or Thurmond would have been better picks. You don't know if Phillip wasn't going to come here. He agreed to an interview and then got the offer from the Rams. Sources state that we was weighing the two options and went with the Rams due to the lack of talent here in DC.

I understand that Gruden liked Manusky and that is the problem. You go with the better talent, not your friend.

Not sure if much if it is relevant if we don't upgrade the defense. I know posters here are anti-free agency but we have to look to free agency to some point to get better. Relying on the draft won't do it. we have to use early picks on the defense to fix it. The DLine and Safety Corps. need an overhaul.

No doubt the defense needs some upgrades. And i will admit Phil Taylor has my interest.. especially if we switch to a base 4-3.

But going all Master the possibilities in Free Agency might not be the answer. We have nine draft choices. We dont really NEED anything in the secondary aside from a starting Free Safety.

We should go heavy and hard on the D-line, and at ILB. And I would not be upset if we drafted another O-lineman in the first 4 rounds.

Full disclosure, Munusky might be a place holder. But if thats the case, got to think they are going to either resign Kirk, or the plan is to leave Gruden in a lame duck coach role.

If we stay in the 3-4 which I think we will we need a minimum of:

NT
DE
ILB
FS

I assume Cravens moves to SS and we keep Smith at OLB. I think Foster needs to move to the 2nd unit. I love the guy but we need more speed and talent.

Keep in mind that we have to get a RB as well. I doubt any RBs in free agency bring us what we need but I could be wrong. Historically, they don't. If we get 3 of those in FA and then use the draft for another starter on the defense and use for depth, we should be ok for the time being.

We just need stability in the HC role. I like Gruden as a coach but his DC choices have been his downfall. Again, Manusky could turn-around the defense. We don't know but I doubt it. If he has bombed the past 3 places, something isn't right. Hopefully he brings in some great position coaches to assist.

IF we maintain the offensive production, and improve in he Redzone... Manusky doesnt need to make us into a top ten defense.

Top five Offense, and say a 15-20 rated defense equals wild card to division winner. From there its any ones guess.

Who do you think we target and end up with in FA? We are less than 2 months away. I think we can both admit that we will need to be more aggressive in our approach this year than in the past. Who you got?

Assuming we stay 3-4 and resign Cousins.

Its way too soon for me to make those kinds of calls. Guys I want might be resigned.

I do hope we go after Ron Leary, as I think Dallas wont have the cap space, and he will want to start.

ON defense, I like Dontario Poe ( But that might have something to do with him spending a day at Disney and my Son being his designated guide. We had lunch, and he is a fan of craft beer... always a plus. :D)

So as we get closer to the official start of the league year, and the list of who will hit FA is finalized... then I can figure out who I think would help us.
