I agree, but I think some of the rules are strange. Such as, they can check who knocked a ball out in the last 2 minutes of a game but not before. What that means is that if the refs make a mistake with 2:01 left it is not as important as with 1:59 left.I saw the clock didnt start right away first thing. Great ballsy and correct ca
Ll to end the game
Just speaking about the tournament in general, they've done a really shitty job managing the clock. Most of the time, they're taking like 2 minutes real time to make a 10 second call about putting 0.3 seconds on the clock. Ridiculous.
It is. They need to change the rule in the off season so refs only check the clock under 30 seconds. It's been extending games way too long and kills all flow when you go the monitor after every little discrepancy. Teams are getting like 6 extra timeouts at the end of games, it's not fun to watch. I understand wanting to get it right but it's really hurting the game.
As for the OP, yeah, the right call was made. What would have been interesting is if he hit the shot before the buzzer went off, but the game should have already ended.
Explain to me why the last 30 seconds is more important than the last 31 seconds, the last minute or anytime during the game.It is. The rules should be the same for the entire game or not at all.
supposedly they got it wrong. unc was suppose to be given the ball under their own basket with 1.6. I think what happened was the right decision though

Your argument would be better if you said not at all. But to make one part of the game different than the others is wrong.
It is the same issue when the announcers say "the refs are letting them paly" or you can't make that call in the last minute of a close game". If a foul is committed and not called in the last few seconds does it not give an advantage to the team that committed the fouls. The rules should be the same for the entire game or not at all.

The rule should be changed to just "make it right whenever".
Possessions or points scored or not scored count just as much early in the game as late. If you don't agree then maybe baskets made in the last two minutes should count for more points also.
And, it is absolutely time to make fouls that are obviously made to put the opponent on the foul line should be 2 shots and the ball. When the coach on the sideline says, "try of the steal and if you don't get it FOUL", that is an intentional foul, it seems everyone in the building, watching on TV and the announcers all know the foul is coming, only the refs seem unaware that the foul is made with the excuse that "he was going for the ball". BS and everyone knows it.
I don't know the rule, but this is what I expected to happen. The more I think about it, the more I think it was unfair for UNC.
They should be able to look to the clock and trust that it is giving them accurate information to make a decision.
For example, if you look at the clock and see 5 seconds, you will probably decide to keep dribbling or make a pass. If you look at the clock and see 0.5 seconds, you will launch a shot.
Now... with only 1.5 seconds left, of course, UNC should know that there is no way in hell they can dribble to mid court and call a timeout... but that shouldn't change the fact that they deserve an accurate clock to play out the game against.
The job of the officials is to CALL THE GAME! Not look for time-outs though uncfan103. They should focus on the court and players and out of the corner of their eyes (easier said than done) see a time-out being called.
I agree. But it shouldn't take all of the officials to call the game in the final 2 seconds. Especially when they know the situation is one commonly used to call a time out. Nobody needs to know if the shot went in on time, and they don't need to know who the ball went out on because of instant replay. It shouldn't take every single official to tell if there was a foul/travel or whatever else they need to look at when there are only a few seconds left.
