2008 Notables for Dual Threat QB's:

--#1: Terelle Pryor PA 5* Ohio St. 40: 4.4

--#4: Robert Griffin TX 4* Baylor 40: N/A (I'm guessing Fast)

--#8: B.J. Daniels FL 4* USF 40: 4.55

--#9: Kody Spano TX 3* Nebraska 40: 4.7

2009 Notables:

--#1: Russell Shepard TX 5* LSU 40: 4.4

--#5: Tate Forcier CA 4* Michigan 40: 4.55

--#6: Cody Green TX 4* Nebraska 40: 4.6

2010 Notable Prospects:

--#1: Cameron Newton TX 4* Auburn 40: 4.53

--#4: James Franklin TX 4* Missouri 40: 4.6

--#7: Brion Carnes FL 4* Nebraska 40: N/A

Booms -- Pryor, Griffin, Daniels, and Forcier have all proven to be either freak atheletes or just flat out play-makers, all as far as I know started their freshmen year, or at least got rotated in (Pryor, Forcier). All of which performed pretty gosh dang well and showed tremendous promise.

Busts -- Spano: (injury prone, shredded knees) was just one spot behind B.J Daniels, who if you haven't seen play is FUN to watch so this is a huge bust for me. Cody Green: Yes folks, I'm sorry but I have to say it. If you're one spot behind Tate Forcier in the rankings, and don't even put up a quarter of the stats Forcier did, then you're a bust for now. Forcier showed some serious poise in that Notre Dame game while Green looked confused alot of the time, and seriously rattled in the start of the OU game.

As far as Russell Sheppard goes, I can't knowingly say one way or the other, I just know he played a bunch of positions, and was a terror any time he was on the field. Never started a game.

I would like to add a tidbit about Green... He hasn't shown much confidence on the field and I would like to compare him to Frazier for example. Frazier showed confidence from the first moment he got on the field.
I'm going to give Green the benefit of the doubt though, considering he was thrown on the field in some precarious situations.

I have to admit, I will be surprised if he does well for us.

By all means people add more tidbits, I am not the authority on this, just throwing facts and opinions out there to get the conversation started. This stuff is pretty interesting to me because there are alot of trends you notice when it comes to rankings and production. Notice in '08 and '09 the top QB's were the only one's that ran 4.4 40's.

Junior QB, Dwight Dasher is a pretty good dual threat. Wasn't really a highly rated QB out of HS, but he's done great here at MTSU.

.Dasher set a new school record in total offense with 3,943 yards while accounting for 36 touchdowns. Finished the year ranked 7th nationally in total offense, 9th in points responsible for, 35th in passing yards, and 40th in rushing.

.Earned New Orleans Bowl MVP honors.

.His 201 rushing yards went down as the most yards ever by a quarterback in NCAA bowl history.

.He became the ninth player in NCAA history to pass for more than 2,000 yards and rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season

I could see him leading MT to another 9 or 10 win season.

I knew this would get brought up that it's early to be doggin' on Cody Green, but I'm just going by the rankings and what technically should be expected out of players according to those rankings.

.

Tate Forcier's record: 5-7

I get your point, but these guys aren't supposed to play as freshmen, and I would bet a lot of money that with Cody starting we would have done better than 5-7. I don't agree with calling kids busts after 1 season.

By this logic Taylor Martinez must be a complete flop because he has zero stats.

I have to say this is one dumb thread. If Spano doesn't get hurt Green is a redshirt. Nebraska had to burn Green redshirt last year they had no one behind Lee. It's been one fucking year. Forcier was benched last year at times he has some wheels and made some nice plays but he also looked inept. Mich had to play Forcier RichRod had no one else to play the postion.

Yes yes I understand, i'm just looking at it from the standpoint of rankings and production jeeeeez. Take it easy I agree with you, I should have made it clearer that this is looking at it from a strictly recruit ranking standpoint. You're all making excellent points, which is the reason I brought this up: Recruiting is bogus for the most part, but there are serious trends that are pretty consistent when you take a closer look. Thanks fore calling my thread dumb though jerk!

Also early drafted, hyped up players that were injured their whole career. Hmmm what do they call them on those top 25 NFL busts shows? Oh yeah, busts. What has Kody Spano been his whole college career? Injured. And yes, it's been "one fucking year" but as I said, i'm going by different standards on this thread.

lol we'll get one eventually

What I'm sayin. We're fishin' with the right bait. I hate this comparison so much, but Shawn Watson is no Lane Kiffin.

Very good chance Tate is not the starting QB for UM this year. Denard Robinson has shown to be a better passer this spring and can run like the wind 4.35 / 4.4 40. Incoming 5 star QB Devin Gardner might press both of them as well.....

Brasky, I get it. You are looking at rankings and production. The thing is that that is your problem. The rankings are completely ASSinine. It is all about where you are at both physically and MENTALLY. Rankings do not judge the mental capability, the system in college, the players at the same position around him, and other intangibles. I have a real hard time calling someone a bust due to injuries. That is just bad luck.

One more thing, if you are going to call Cody Green a bust after only one year then I don't see how you are calling Terelle Pryor a "boom". The Rose Bowl last year was the first game of his 2 year career he looked like what he was propped up to be. The Ohio St fans wanted him on the bench for most of last year. He was propped up to be the next Vince Young coming into Ohio St and he is FAR from that.

Ohio State is in the Big 10, defense first, unlike the Big 12 for the past decade. If Pryor goes to the Pac 10 or Big 12, he would be putting up impressive numbers, and would be at the top of draft boards.

That is not the QB that I watch.

There are many QBs in the Big 10 history books that put up big time numbers in a defense first league on teams that were far less talented than Ohio St is. Until Pryor figures out how to stop that pea in his head from rattling around he will be a major bust.

He certainly showed his intelligence level by his support of Michael "the dog torturer" Vick.
