Moreland goes into the Rangers’ series opener at Boston on Tuesday night with an extra-base hit in each of the last two games. He last had an extra-base in three consecutive games Sept. 16-18, 2013.


Moreland opened the season with five extra-base hits in his first 46 at-bats. Since returning from surgery in late April to remove a bone chip from the left elbow, he has three extra-base hits in 20 at-bats.

Anyway, Norm threw this out today, Harrah played all 18 innings of a doubleheader at SS and never touched the ball. No ground outs, no liners, no popups, no DP, no nothing.

I didn't catch the year he did this, but I got to thinking, I'm not sure I've ever seen A GAME in my life where the SS wasn't involved, defensively, in some form or fashion.

got me interested so i looked it up: June 25, in 1976, Texas Rangers’ shortstop Toby Harrah played every inning of both games of a double header without ever getting a fielding chance.

He is one of my favorite all time Rangers. I have heard that before about him doing that. Unreal.

I saw Toby in a doubleheader at the old stadium once where he charged the mound when former Ranger Jim Umbarger hit him. That was an amazing doubleheader. We saw a triple play, a bench clearing brawl and saw the Rangers sweep the doubleheader. That was in that amazing 1977 season. That was one of the most incredible seasons ever for the Rangers that started out with Lenny Randle punching out the manager, Frank Lucchesi, in ST. It was also the same year Bump Wills and Harrah hit back to back inside the park home runs on consecutive pitches. Willie Horton became the first Ranger to have a 3 HR game that year and Bert Blyleven threw a no hitter that year also. It was also the year we had 4 managers in less than a week. In spite of such turmoil they managed to win 94 games that year.

I asked Fraley today who he thought would be playing on the four corners and DH in 2017. He pretty much thinks the same guys will be here with the exception of Gallo playing an infield corner spot. He said Hamilton and Choo in the OF and Beltre and Prince at the other infield spot and DH. I guess he completely dismisses the idea of Mazara and Williams being here.

Derek Holland gets an MRI on Friday according to Fraley. I sure hope it is good news. I have some worries about it myself.
