Where da fuck is JJM?

He get lost asparagus hunting?

I'm here sir....

We went and drove out north of Elkhorn......probably around 180th and some odd streets out there in the country. But I just don't know that area well enough, so I was trying to spot old plants.

Just couldn't find anything. Thought about heading south, but the basketball games were a comin' on and we had to get to the bar en sech :smokin:

Gonna get out this week and do a good deal of huntin though

Sturgeon? Yumm Yum!

Yes...That too.

I use northerns the rest of the time.

Bring water to a boil, shut off heat, drop in the northern pieces for 2 minutes (like poaching), take out of the water, sprinkle with lemon pepper, dip in melted butter as you eat it.

Sounds good. We used to get sturgeon when they were running the Missouri, down by Plattsmouth. Dig up stink bugs off the river bank and fish with them. Sturgeon loved them.

Now that is some good fish. Closest thing to lobster I have ever eaten. Never have had northern.

I haven't fished for sturgeon in years, but we used to do it by Dodge Park in Omaha. They only bite during spawning season (which should be about now). We'd just walk the bank til' we found a sandbar near shore and cast out to it. I've heard the stinkbug thing and something about greenworms that you dig out of the bank, but we always used regular crawlers and had luck. You got me wanting to go sturgeon fishing now.

Northerns are a pita to fillet due to the Y-bones. A guide up in Canada showed me how about 15 years ago. I probably mutilated 10 fish before I finally figured it out.

Yeah the green worms were what we dug up. Call them stink bugs cause they were more like a slug and stink

It is their spawn. I thought they run to Gavins Point though and spawn there.

Are you thinking of paddlefish?

I don't know to be honest. I've never fished for them but I know some people who do and they go up towards Gavenspoint. They have to snag them because they don't bite bait.

I got the sturgeon info from a long time river rat I used to go fishing with (I was dating his cousin). He told me the only time you could catch them on bait was a couple weeks in the spring because after the spawn they go deep. Hence the sandbar reference. They spawn in the shallows that sandbars create. Made sense to me
