no reason to keep it. esp since they are doing the whole draft in 1 day. so any fans that do go to this years draft will still have something to cheer for even though its in round 2
Don't you think it's a bit early to decide this? Like if Kovy breaks his little toe tomorrow, Marty retires to shady oaks the next day, and Henrique decides he wants to take up a career in LARPing where he gets to slay kings all day? The time to decide this will be June 25th.
ALSO, don't forget that all non-playoff teams can now win the lottery for the 1st overall pick, zero chance Lou give that up if we just miss.
i agree with all that esp the larping. but if the devils make the playoffs i would see no reason unless they really really like someone to paint themselves into a corner with next year
In all honesty, it all depends on the talent pool. If Lou sees a guy that he wants on the team then keep it. If he thinks we'll survive without it then let it go. But I believe he said something along the lines of why get rid of it if you don't have to, I could be wrong. But that suggests he won't get rid of the pick until he absolutely has to which would be next year.
The fact we're even talking about this pisses me off. Penalized for breaking an unwritten rule. One that had to go to a 3rd party to be decided. Wasn't having that deal negated punishment enough? Total bullshit. You can bet your ass the Leafs, Habs, Rags etc. would not have received the same unjust treatment.
So speaking of violating the cba, can anybody expkain to me how the Isles trading for a retired Tim Thomas in order to reach the cap floor is not a form of cap circumvention?
So I can't find out when the lottery is this year, but the year we won with Larsson it was on April 11 (or at least that's the date of the article). So it must be right after the playoffs start. So at least we'll know what we're dealing with regardless of if we're in the playoffs or out of it. I just can't really see the Lou giving it away this season. If he didn't do it last year, why this year?
The Isles neeeded to get back to the cap floor (I think I heard on the radio by TOMORROW) so they traded with Boston. Now, since Thomas isn't playing the cap hit still counts but the isles don't have to pay him. So they get his Phantom $5M on the cap and the Bruins lose $5M on next year's cap. Now let's say that Thomas actually returns and plays next year, which I seriously doubt the Isles would let him do, they need to give Boston a 2nd rounder.
Us having the draft will def make them keep the pick.
I remember reading an article somewhere I think newsdsy. Teams in certain tv markets or population markets that meet x amount don't need to reach the cap floor. I thougjt that was really weird. I will try and find it. Of course that was old cba
