Because it was primarily to the shoulder? Malkin on Grossman would be a better comparison, but it wasn't a very clear video.

eh, wrong one.. malkin on grossmann you're right

also keep in mind neal didn't get any for his hit on couturier which was much more aggregious than any of the 3

I'm with everyone else...he should have gotten that 1-game suspension, but why did Shanny give him one now when everyone else in these playoffs had previously gotten off scott free?*

i discovered the secret.

the nhl is being consistently inconsistent, rendering comments of their inconsistencies irrelevant and unfounded.

they pulled one over on us.

It didn't help Giroux's case that he was pissed that no-call was made when Brodeur played the puck outside of the trapezoid (that rule/trapezoid has to go, by the way). Whenever you try to show up the refs in this league, you're gonna feel the backlash (even if you are right).

I really don't understand the inconsistency issue here per OV and Giroux. OV didn't contact the head, he hit the shoulder. He left his feet (although only one), which is a penalty but not something deserving of a suspension. The lack of contact with the head is EXACTLY why he didn't get a suspension.

It's tough to find intent to hit someone in the head when, at the end of the play, he didn't actually hit him in the head. Big difference, especially when head shots are what the league is concerned about.

Weren't there 11 suspensions in the 1st round this year, and 6 all of last year? Or something like that?

It's easy to understand, shanny has caught a load of shit for being soft on stars (Weber, Ovetchkin come to mind) so he was under the gun to come down on a star. Bad timing for Claude. That and the league is tired on Laviolettes incessant whining at the refs on national TV

I think Shanny said 1 of 2 things.

1) The hit was fine, but the whining to the refs was not so...yep, 1 game for you
2) Um... You do know I started and ended my career as a Devil, right? Sit a game.

Well theres goes the chance of seeing a Kings/Flyers final! I wonder what would happen to Flyer fans if that happened and the Kings beat them?

Sorry :ss:

Seriously though I understand the suspension and I bet there was pressure on Shanny to do this. I can't wait until next year they will dish out 100 suspensions in the pre-season, a few random during the regular season and a bunch round one then kill a team facing elimination.

But on the flip side, complaining about it does no good for Flyer fans, the fact is they should be upset with Giroux for such a bonehead play. It is no different than the frustrations the Penguin players had in the first round. Total bonehead plays that hurt your team.

This.

It's a big picture thing. You can't get the refs in your back pocket on one play.

I'd agree with most that the showing up thing was definitely a big part of this. You don't just turn around during a play to scream and point at a ref like that, and then after the hit continue to complain. Just...just not the best of ideas. Clearly a frustrated guy.
