Just for the record, I have no problems with what Giroux did (although I do find it unnecessary, unsportsmanlike, & immature). I just think there's a double standard here where certain players are held to a higher standard than others. Maybe if Giroux wasn't a captain I could understand him acting like that, but as a captain he should be held to higher standards, like other captains would be.

Tell you one thing, don't see Captain Cally pulling off bullshit like this.

At least he didn't go full Trottier and Stevens (warning: NSFW language)

That was way worse, but neither Trottier nor Stevens ever wore the C for the Pens like how Giroux wears the C for the Flyers. Not saying Giroux should be fined or suspended, but he should be held to a higher standard as a captain.

Oh don't act like "Captain Cally" doesn't do bullshit too - a lot of players do dirty things you don't always see - some you see because it gets polarized and it gets magnified - and the media and fans like to put labels on certain players and not be willing to take them off when they have changed their game to make people happy

I think captains have to be somewhat reserved when talking trash. They have to set an example to the rest of the team, especially the younger guys on the team. If the captain starts talking trash then it sends the message that everyone could talk trash. All that's going to do is rile the other team up.

My only question: Why should it be any different when a captain does something, compared to another player? Just because the captain does it, doesn't make it worse of an action - you do something bad, it's bad regardless of who the player is - and there are captains in the league who pull shit sometimes - I'm not going to look at a player any different when he does something bad/supposedly bad just because he's the captain - people also realize, as the captain of the team, they have to hold things in sometimes and there are times when it boils over and they get irritated and you have to give them some leeway sometimes - when a player like Claude Giroux is the captain and he wears his heart on his sleeve and plays with an emotional game, to think he's never going to do anything dirty/over the line is a wish that unfortunately you're not going to be granted - other players get more leeway because of not being a captain - but when a captain does something, it gets more press, sometimes deserving/sometimes not

And do any of you guys truly know whether G "jawing" at JVR was meant to be a knock against JVR? Last time I checked, it seems like these guys have no problem with each other:

I'm not going to hold this against him, for all we know he couldn't just been messing around with an old friend/teammate. At the same time, immature behavior like this might explain why he didn't make Team Canada.

I think sometimes, the "C" is overrated because people take so much stock into a letter, but every player should act the same regardless, they're in the NHL so they should be smart enough to know that those types of things shouldn't be tolerated - they shouldn't need the captain to know that stuff

And honestly, I don't believe that "immature behavior" had anything to do with him not making Team Canada - guys like P.K. Subban have done some things in the past that have not been the greatest(and I don't want to single him out, but I know he was supposedly on the bubble) - I don't think Claude Giroux is immature or anywhere close to that - if he didn't make it, it would have been due to his slow start more than anything

Yep! It's a very emotional game and sometimes it makes players angry - and that's what is great about the league, it is legitimate anger, it isn't the immature bullshit type - Claude Giroux, for example, has always been an emotional, heart on his sleeve type of player and when you're the best player on the team, you need that sometimes just to keep other teams/players honest

I think we're taking this a bit too seriously. Pretty funny to me. I have no clue what being called a pigeon means however.

I have to disagree about the captain being just a letter. There's a certain sense of responsibility that comes with the C. I don't think this is that big of a deal, nor do I think it cost him an roster spot on Team Canada, but when you're competing with the likes of Sid, Toews, Tavares, & Bergeron, then maturity counts a lot.

Maybe Claude should put some birdseed in his hockey pants and sprinkle some in front of JVR and wait to see what happens (lol).

I think G is maybe trying to say that JVR is pigeon-toed :noidea:

It was funny, though :)

I have never seen Cally get out of line ever with nonsense like this, he plays a dirty and gritty game, but none of this shit.

Which is exactly what GiWHO did

Maybe JVR should then shit on Giroux's head.
