He might have taken a big step to getting that $400,000 bonus. I imagine it might be a probowl birth bonus, and the best way to get there as a returner is by having the most TDs

I'm still not sure it is really a pay cut. La Canfora said his base was 1.4 and now it's 1 with 400k in bonuses. Anybody wanna bet those bonuses are very achievable? He probably agreed to this to get rid of the last year of his contract and in return gets paid the same this season. That is assuming his previous bonuses were unrealistic.
