Giants Not Using a DH in Oakland Tonight

Bad idea to let him bat tonight, but if they really think he's that good of a hitter and the bench is thin because of injuries just let him DH on the nights he's not pitching.

I agree, but I think this is kinda a perfect storm. The A's are throwing a lefty, and the Giants have nothing but lefty hitters. Yesterday, the A's threw a righty.

The more I think about it it makes sense. He's most likely going to go 7-8 innings anyway. And the lineup he's facing tonight isn't exactly a juggernaut like his last start

Regular AL game, 21 inning game...

To protect the bully, the team moves the pitcher to left field for 1 batter to bring in a lefty to pitch. What happens to the DH?

You'd lose the DH, I believe.

Pretty sure any of the nine positions can have a DH used for them at the beginning of a game.

Sweet, I'd like to hit Bumgarner then in the pitcher spot and have a DH for the shortstop, Alcides Escobar.

That'd be a funny scenario though if Bumgarner happened to land on an AL team with a terrible hitter somewhere and Bum was a passable hitter by comparison.

Meh, no big deal, if in a NL park he'd have to pitch, he's a decent hitter and the Athletics aren't exactly the 1927 Yankees.

What does everyone think about this?

Personally, I think it is stupid. I hate the DH, but it does offer an advantage, so if you dont use the option, you are conceding an advantage to the opponent.

Bum is the best hitting PITCHER in the game today. There is little argument about that. But he is still a PITCHER. Also, the Giants are forcing themselves to have to pinch-hit once Bum exits the game. If the giants wanted to use Bum as a DH in a game he is not pitching, I would be more OK with it, because they still would not have to deal with PHing or double switches, which makes the game interesting, but is a disadvantage.

Personally, I think it is 50/50 marketing/political move by Bochy. Marketing because it brings attention to the team and Bum and political because it curries favor with Bum in the locker-room (although this may actually backfire because he is taking ABs away from a "hitter").
