I think this guy is the wildcard for the defense. If he’s good, the defense will be very good. If he is garbage, the defense will be average. It sounds like he showed up to camp a lot leaner. He had good numbers near the end of last year. Outside of Caleb Williams, I’d say he’s the young player we most need to perform well in order to compete at a high level this year. I think he’s going to surprise a lot of people this year.

I agree Dexter will be a key player on the Bears D, he’ll likely be the main interior D-Lineman. I’ll say he gets between 4-6 sacks this year, but I could see him getting more. I think the Bears D will be good overall this year, the secondary and LB units look very strong - the Bears do need someone besides Montez Sweat to step up as an edge rusher and get some sacks, I’m not sure who that will be, I think that’s the biggest question mark with regards to the Bears D. Who do you think can step up as an edge rusher?

Good overall take on Dexter. As to who might step up, I think many Bears fans are hoping to see Austin Booker be that guy, altho due to his inexperience, he'll at best be situational. Still, when he's on the LOS, we're hoping he can do some damage. He was graded in many scouts books as a 3rd rounder, but that lack of experience is what likely dropped him to the 5th. I'm banking on the Bears inking a veteran still out there, such as Ngakoue or Ogbah, or perhaps an unexpected post June 1st cut as the preseason rolls on.

Interesting. The Bears just don’t really have any other proven edge rusher other than Sweat, so they’ll need someone to step up. Signing a veteran at that position would be a boost for the Bears, as like you say Booker is inexperienced and unproven. The rest of the Bears defense looks strong. Depending on how well Williams plays, I think the Bears could be a playoff caliber team, they are much improved.

If CW is looking good in camp, I expect a big move to get another top pass rushing DE this year. I expect Dexter to be improved also.

Dexter could make the defense a lot better but if he's trash....it's really not going to make a big impact. He's not the guy that will make or break the defense. Right now that guy is Sweat and he needs help on the opposite side.

A to the F'n Men. Can't say I'm 100% confident Poles will eventually ink a vet to bolster the DE/Edge opposite Sweat, be it thru one of the remaining FAs or some future team cut, but I'm 90% confident he will.

Haha, I like that Gervon stated emphatically to not delete that Tweet.

So far this preseason, Dexter has looked very pedestrian IMO. He’s going against back up and can’t seem to get to the QB. I think it may take a while for him to get used to his body transformation this off-season. He also seems to have a problem with keeping his hips low. Hopefully, im wrong, but I think this guy is going to struggle this year.

He’s already at 3 sacks. He is looking like a gem.

The thing I loved about Dexter was just prior to the season, some writer or analyst predicted on X that he'd be a bust this year. Instead of ranting or whining about it, all Gervon said in response was "DON'T DELETE THIS". I thought it was the perfect comeback, as if he wants to remind the guy at the end of the season how he fucked up that prediction. Still a lot of football still left, but there's little doubt at this point he's very much improved.

Its pretty impressive when the dt's jobs in this defense is to keep the linebackers clean.

Its so hard to compare players and schemes. You had the rams where the defense was, you ten guys do this, while Donald, you do what you want. Go to Dallas and it was the same with Parsons.

Differences, Parson does it at 245 and cannot be sustainable. Donald did it at 280, while Dexter is trying to do it at 315.

So I dont know if he is just doing it on third downs, or doing it when they are blitzing a linebacker or cb, but the end game being that force like Donald is not even fair when he does not get to pick matchups and do what he wants.

315 was what he was drafted at. I bet he at least lost 35 lbs between then and now.

It usually goes the opposite direction. The lowest I have seen him at is 312. If he was 280, I am pretty sure we would not be looking for the other side for sweat, he would have beaten out Walker for DE snaps..

Dexter said he lost body fat and feels “a lot different” as a result. He can move around easier. He can get off the ball quicker. He can go longer during practices. He felt so good that he did his first-day conditioning test with the defensive ends instead of the tackles.

While not explicitly stating he lost weight, losing body fat would suggest he did unless he gained muscle at an equal or greater rate. It might not have been 35 lbs, but it’s probably a lot more than an average person could lose in that time frame.

I’ve made a transformation like that before and I lost 35 lbs in about the same time and felt the same way.

I have been told this my whole life, muscle weighs more than fat.
