Ridiculous sim of money. Not that the Yankees can't afford it but my god this just means the next pitcher will get $400 million

Owners really trying to grease the skids this offseason ahead of CBA negotiations.

Now the David Price deal doesn't seem so bad in comparison.

This one will back fire eventually.

Since they are the Yanks it won’t hurt like it would most teams.

But this contract will be ass eventually

The competitive gap just gets further by the year. And this isnt sour grapes or anything. Its just the reality of the situation.

No they aren't.

I hate the Yankees but whining about them while ignoring all the other ridiculous money that other teams have given players is absurd.

The Yankees overspent for Cole. But it pales in comparison to the Harper deal last year given past performances.

It’s also possible he goes back to being what he was with Pittsburgh once the Houston steroids wear off. Pretty good, but not dominant

Yep, it just so happens Cole and Morton became greats while on the Astros. Verlander also picked up a step, but he was already a freak of nature. I could see Cole declining quick but if they can get 3-4 very good to great years out of him and a WS win..that would be enough to say it was worth it imo

Gerrit is already working with Tacoby Bellsbury on his conditioning for injury prevention.

Hard to spin this as being a positive as a Bosox fan, though. If it ends up being a shitty contract, not a big deal with the Yanks' revenue stream.

People have been saying that for years but the thing that keeps it competitive is the ability of teams to keep a player's salary under control for those first 6 years or so, which sometimes includes that players best years.
Even the Yankees, who are the most famous at signing the big name free agents have only been real successful during time periods where they had key players come up through their farm system.
It's definitely easier for teams with seemingly unlimited money but I don't think they would have had much success this century without hitting on some "Yankee lifers" from their farm system like Jeter, Rivera, Posada and some others.
