Official scorer changed Crawford's second error to a hit, so VSong gave up one earned run.

What do you guys think of a 6 man rotation? This staff has no real "ace" right now, so it's not like you'd be taking starts away from a winning pitcher and giving them to a scrub.

Devil's advocate: Vogs could very well be considered an ace. In fact, if he throws 7.0 innings next time out with 3 or less earnies, he'll be leading the majors in ERA.

Saw that....I call horseshit. A ML SS makes that play.

Good game boys. I like the Twinkees (Mauer, Morneau and Cuddyer are good guys) so I'll root for them after today :)

Looks like they are giving it a shot...Zito scheduled to pitch Tuesday vs the Cubs. I can't imagine anyone getting dropped from the rotation.

Vsong is having a nice run, but you wouldn't expect him to pitch better than anyone other than Zito over the course of a season. Zito is the monkey in the wrench though. You can't put him in a 5 man rotation over any of these other guys. And if not starting, he'd be useless on this team as anything other than a loogy - and I just don't see him being willing or able to make the transition to that role.

What I meant by no "ace" though, was, given that Zito is going to be in the rotation, you'd be hard pressed to say any of these other 5 guys should get more starts than any other. I just wonder if the extra day of rest for the 5 "true" starters would make up for the extra Zito starts, and one less bullpen arm.

Giants' Barry Zito raves about Triple-A catcher

I guess the start is for a doubleheader so maybe it's not for a 6 man rotation...

But Zito had very strong and nice words for his AAA catcher Sanchez...maybe he can be called up? Can he be any worse than what we have now?

Well, they got a doubleheader, so everyone is on normal rest. We'll see what happens after that. Interestingly, the Whitesox have gone to a six man rotation. They say their starters pitch better with the extra day.

After Zito gets called up: Are the Giants going to go with a 6 man rotation? Are they going to option Madbum? Or are they going to trade a starter? If Zito flops will he be cut? Are there any other options? Am I asking too many questions?

I wouldn't be shocked if Bochy went to a six man rotation. Further, it could showcase Zito for a possible (I know, remotely so) trade where we eat 1/2 the contract. I'd hate to see Song, Cainer, and Bum get fewer starts (and Timmy too once he reverts to his Freakness form).

On another note: we have one too many arms when Zito comes back. Boch can go with 13 pitchers for a little bit, but how about:

Mota to the A'ss for Ellis. Proposed roster:

C: Whitey, Stewart (until ChezIII is ready)
IF: Huff, Ellis, Craw, Panda, Fonty, MigE6/Hall (Burriss to AAA, Hall/MigE6 cut)
OF: Ross, Torres, Nate, Belt, MST/PTB (MST traded or PTB cut)
SP: Tim, ChezII, Cainer, Bum, Song
RP: Weez, Romo, Lopez, Affeldt, Casilla, RamRam, Zito

I think Zito could be used as a LOOGY/long guy/spot starter. I know that he's not done this in his career but IIRC he's open to pitching "wherever the Giants need me."

I have been observing that too. They have a similar problem as Zito/Vogelsong with Peavy/Humber. And with Peavy kinda fragile they figure 6 man works better.

In the link above Bochy said they'd probably go with 13 pitchers for a while. And a 6 man rotation would maybe help Tim regain his freakiness. After that happened then maybe they'd go back to 5 man. And who knows, maybe somethign weird like Zito pitching ok and a 6 man doesn't look so bad.
