I let the feelings of my fantasy baseball team take hold of me today. For that I apologize to Santiago Casilla, the Giants Organization, and the people of Sports SportsHoopla

Yup, that was it. Tonight's bullpen pitchers :

G Mota 1.0
J Affeldt 2.0
S Casilla 0.0
J Lopez 0.1
S Romo 0.2
C Hensley 1.0

9th inning stats (Casilla/Lopez/Romo):

1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB
9.00 ERA
5.00 WHIP

Not good.

Wow, what a crazy game. I think Bochy did some good work there.

If I'm not mistaken, with Theriot unavailable, he used every damn player in the dugout except Otero, Timmy, Vogs, and Bum.

But not scoring Posey from 3rd with no outs in the 3rd was what got our pen burnt up.

Nice to see another good start from Zito. If he actually is a so-so pitcher this year that's like found money.

And our big 3 keep on hitting. Dbacks lose, we're ahead of them now...

Good game.

Our pen got burned up because Bochy channeled his inner Felipe. Didn't have to happen, and I hope it doesn't keep happening or we're gonna see some of these guys go down to injury and then we'll see some farm league gas cans really burning up the joint.

Edit: How can one complain with the W - and some moves were good, but my worry is that the BP won't be able to handle the stress of basically pitching in every game. We've seen it happen before and it ain't purty.

The Giants are 3-0 in games started by Zito. :)

I think Boch had no choice in this one. Zito only went 5 innings (goes to pen early)...The Mets had 50 lefties in their lineup (goes to Lopez instead of sticking with Casilla)...

Without a dominant closer and with the game on the line, I think he did a great job. And yes, if he does this in every day, we're in trouble. But he won't.

Caught the game on replay. Zito was serviceable, but came within one hit of shitting the bed. Curve wasn't working for him.

That, and...

No reason to burn a REAL hitter with 2 outs and no one on this early...

We have all 3 of our catchers in the game currently, so we need to keep all options available for later.

Yep.

Theriot out, and in a tight game, two outs, and only in the 6th...

I guess that's the reason? As Kruk and Kuip said, why not use Bum or Vogelsong?

Edit: Filo beat me to it!! :)

and this too.

Who was it that said before the season that Hector needed work on his defense? Oh, yeah, now I remember. ;)

uh....everybody?

For instance:

MarcoPolo in Sprint Training said:
I'm amazed at how many people think Hector Sanchez should start the season with the team. He had *one* great year in lowly *a-ball*, and he sucked once promoted to Fresno. He really needs to show he can hit decent pitching before making the team. (And no, I don't think random ST scrubs qualifies as "decent hitting".)

gp956 in reply said:
I don't think many would be calling for Chez3 if not for Posey's health concerns, or the relatively weak bottom of the order that will present itself when Posey is out of the lineup (or playing first base). I think it's pretty much a universal observation that Chez3 is the Giants best hitting alternative to Posey at catcher right now. Of those that favor Chez3 starting in Fresno, again the universal opinion is that he needs to work on his defensive skills - not is hitting. Consequently your post seems a little off....but not necessarily wrong in a context free environment.

...and of course last night's game was the exact situation envisioned by those who wanted chez3 on the team, while also showing the validity of the opinion that he's got some work to do behind the plate.
