I think we just need to let Belt play. He's either going to get his shit together and perform like Freeman and Hosmer did, or he's going to bust. With Cain extended, our "window" just got propped open for a long time, and we need to know if we got the next Jt Snow for the future, or a failed prospect.

Yep. Might as well get a long look at Belt. Huff is not going to be harmed by coming off the bench, and if Belt flounders after a few months of steady AB, then Huff can step in, rested and ready, to finish off the season and his contract.

That's what I want to see. To me there are only two options:

A) Play Belt for 120-150 ab's and see what he has.

B) Try and trade him now while his 'potential' still has some value.

either way doing what we are doing now is not helping him or the club in the long run IMO.

If Kruk's on air criticisms of Huff this morning is any indication, then the Belt era starts today.

You think Kruk has that much power? Or more like if he's free to be that critical then he knows a decision has been made?

Would you (or anybody else for that matter) mind giving a brief overview of what Krukow said this morning?

The latter, for the most part. Whenever Kruk offers overt criticism of a player it signals management's dissatisfaction.

Krukow: "I mean come on! What the hell are you thinking about? It's unacceptable. This is the big leagues." Also said Huff had to, "get it together," at the plate. It should be up on the murph and mac podcast on knbr.com at some point.

This. According to Larry Kruger, Giants management likely told Kruk "if you don't like Huffs play, feel free to talk about it."

I think Huffer is gone, perhaps as soon as Franchez returns. He's mentally checked out.

Makes sense. I doubt they go full Belt/Pill platoon entirely just yet but maybe they will bench him for a week or two. If those 2 rake like crazy then he's out of a job. But if they struggle he may get another look.

A smidge of Nolan-esque armchair psychiatry? Do any of us know that?

Maybe he's just washed up (something gp called pre-season).

I dunno; I'm not saying the team is doomed. I'm reacting to Kruks rant. You may be right and Huff may be done. I don't pretend to know WHY he's checked out, it may be shattered confidence, lack of fitness, diminished skills. Can't say. But I CAN say he looks close to done.

And given what happened with RoRo, I can see the FO eating the contract.

And to think we could've let Coletti sign him...

LOL

Hindsight is a bitch. The right move now was obviously to let the team's best hitter in all categories, in the year we won our first WS in 56 years, the team leader with the catchphrase (thong) and the veteran presence...to let him sign elsewhere. But in the real world that wasn't going to happen. So here we are...

Indeed. Wish we'd have kept UUU of the two, but I see the reasoning in keeping him.

I'm just sayin...if we had to keep one, we at least would've had the "UUU" chant
