The Giants have got some control issues. Not to rag on the pitching staff, which is the least of our problems. But they do have two issues that need addressing.

1) They have allowed the 3rd most walks in the majors, trailing only the Cubs and Royals.

2) They have allowed 100 stolen bases, only 9 teams have allowed more. The pitchers need to do a better job of holding runners on. The good news in this scenario is that the Giants have caught runners 50 times, second only to Sandy Eggo at 51. Even so, the stolen base percentage is 66.7%, which is not good.

Addressing these issues, if possible, will make a stellar pitching staff that much better.

Well, the reason we have the second most runners caught is because more are running off us. But yes, we could use improvement there.

Also not easy to pound the zone when you're worried about losing 1-0 or 2-1 all the time.

Interesting. My gut says credit Stewart. Maybe Timmy is doing better than it seems. He is still in the top ten of stolen base attempts. King Felix in Seattle leads with 35 SB attempts. Timmy is at 30.

I am curious. It feels to me that the Giants' pitchers have been throwing a lot of pitches. Not at all rare for them to be averaging 20+ pitches an inning. Is that simply a control issue? Or is it that with this putrid offense, they are trying to be too fine, almost perfect? This is really into the weeds stuff, but I would be interested in the thinking.
