Haven't read the thread so this may already have been covered, but I think Bochy kinda has to eat some blame on this one.

He obviously left Timmy in one batter too long, and it's easy to say that with hindsight, but I was yelling at the TV to pull him before Cargo came up. He had thrown a ton of pitches (114?), he was getting knocked around, his last out wasn't due to good pitching, it was the boneheaded baserunning of the Rockies, and it seemed like every batter he faced was left handed that inning including Cargo.

I guess there's the intangible 'macho' thing, gotta leave your ace in there to finish his job, etc. But I think that was the wrong call. Gotta put Lopez in there.

Again, obvious in hindsight, he gets Cargo and we maybe win and Bochy's a genius. But as I outlined above, there were a ton of reasons to pull him and not many not to.

The awful offense early in the game with all the DPs and such didn't help either of course.

Ugly.

My buddy was saying the same thing before the homer. He was actually clamoring for a new pitcher when Fowler was up. We were at a bar, so I didn't get a chance to actually watch many of Timmy's pitches, but I was like, "Eh, he's fine. CarGo has been slumping all year." Unfortunately, that one pitch that he blasted 340 feet might have propelled him out of it.

You're right that Boch probably deserves a little bit of blame, but I think the next time Timmy is in a similar situation, he might have better command of his stuff. Even if he doesn't, I still don't have any doubt that he will prevail more often than not. I guess that's what having an ace is. Sometimes that backfires, but if it's possible, I think Timmy gained even more confidence based on his manager's confidence in him. Not that anyone is ever trying to lose, but I'll take a loss like that in May in exchange for some crucial wins in August and September. I'll feel a lot better about that statement if they get the split tonight, though.

man, I hate Coors field.

Coors-house of horrors

game goats - Bochy, Nada, and Derosa

4North made some good points on how rested the bullpen was after the day off and the complete game by Vogelsong. Hindsight notwithstanding, but I think we all felt Timmy was exposed a little bit. I would have definitely brought him back out there with the lead but after that muffed double play, get a fresh arm in there.

Derosa has a reputation of being a really good player and I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt but as a Giants player, I haven't seen anything to get excited..where's the good Derosa?

Timmy's strike zone was pretty fair:

location.php

He had quite a few balls called strikes as well as a couple low strikes called balls.

Not exactly umpjacked.

No, he got umpjacked. The low pitches that showed up as strikes on your image were actually swinging strikes.
