Lock? I don't think so, but he isn't too far off. If he gets to 3000 hits then I'd say yes, but he'd have to play another season or two for that. He's at 2811 right now, but he hasn't had 100+ hits in a year since 2007 so we'll see.

Lock is probably too strong but he should get in. His intangibles/likability are the exact mathematical inverse of Barry Bonds'

Am I being premature to start really liking Vogelsong?

I want to play him at SS. His D can't be any worse than what we have gotten, and his bat is clearly better than anything we have gotten.

The other announcer is a guy named Matt Vasgersian. His last gig was with the Pads in 2009. Found these nuggets:

On March 3, 2009, while participating in a taped chat with Harold Reynolds on MLB Network, Vasgersian misidentified Fernando Valenzuela as Fernando Vina. When corrected by Reynolds, Vasgersian responded, "What the fuck is that?" The network went to black.

On April 28, 2009, while watching Brad Hawpe being taken off the field of play in a neck brace after being hit in the neck by a throw from catcher Nick Hundley, Vasgersian light-heartedly noted that he thought one of the paramedics was Donovan McNabb, the starting quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles. His broadcast partner, former infielder Billy Ripken, asked Vasgersian on air, "Dude, what's wrong with you?". Vasgersian later admitted that he handled the situation in a poor manner.

Yeah I saw both of those happen. I don't really like him as a play-by-play annoucer, but he isn't as bad on MLB Network. I don't really like him though honestly.

Very windy. There was a ball hit to right field that Huff, Sanchez, and Ross chased after, and it ended up some 15 rows into the stands. Constant mist.

The announcer said these conditions are tougher on the hitter than the pitcher. I'm not so sure about that. Must be tough to keep any consistent release point and balance.

Haha! It just happened again. Foul ball off Vogelsong's bat, three players chase it, and it ends up 20 rows into the stands.

Thank you. That sucks, at least the good guys are winning.

But I just get this perception that Omar isn't quite a lock yet. And Ozzie played in a different era for shortstops (right?), giving him an advantage at the time.

Yea, I have that same perception. I think it will hurt him that he's moved around so much.

That said, unless Smith's defense was far superior to Vizquel's, Vizquel has to get in there. (BTW: Omar's won 11 gold gloves, while Smith won 13)

My gut tells me he'll eventually get in, but it might take a while. Which would be unfair, since Smith got in on a 1st ballot.
