Cain wins the long battle with Smith. Heh!

Yep. Huge out there - the game may well have been decided there, at least psychologically.

LOL. Exactly. The two best regular season games of my youth were that game and the Dave Dravecky comeback game. I still have pics (blurry and far away as they are) of Dravecky's game so I know that happened. All I have of the Brenly game are a few fleeting memories.
I was there too. What an emotional thrill that was

It could be such a better sport if they just tweaked a few rules to enhance scoring, IMHO:

1) Increase the size of the goal - like 1 meter wider or 1/2 meter taller
2) Limit the area where the goalkeeper can use his hands to the goal area only, not the penalty area
3) Loosen the offsides rule, or even eliminate it altogether
4) Play with 10 or even 9 players, instead of 11.

Deciding critical games by a shootout is like deciding the World Series with a home run derby contest, or deciding the NBA finals with a game of H-O-R-S-E.

or deciding NBA games by timeouts and free throws? I kid.

My suggestion for soccer? Put up a shot clock.

I think really only eliminating the offside rule all together would be the only thing needed, it would force the defense to defend more of the field and open up more scoring opportunities.

While we're at it, eliminate "extra time"

Why can't they just hit the pause button on the official time clock?

Agreed. I meant to add that they don't need to do ALL of these, just one or two.

You don't need a lot of scoring for an exciting game. Why, just look at the game that Cain pitched a couple of weeks ago - nobody on the other team scored at all and it was a GREAT game!

Well, Giants probably deserved that as Smith got robbed of a fair double down the line. Casilla looks off the last couple of days. Definitely time for a stiff whiskey-coke.

Feck. :(

Hopefully the Angels can hold on.

That one hurt.

Of course, Cain got Cained again. After Posey's two run blast in the 1st, the Giants did NOTHING against a kid pitching his major league debut, so of course he looked like Cy Young.

Since I am in SoCal for a few more days, I was listening also to the Bums/Angels game. The Dogs are hitting .262 with RISP. The Giants are hitting .222 with RISP. Pitching is virtually identical, as is team Batting Average. Not so in crucial spots.

Not that it mattered today, we were 0 for 1 with RISP. :L

Here's to the Angels hanging on to their 5-3 lead.

they gave up on one of the leaders in Saves

Gotcha.

Overall, Casilla has been terrific, but these last two days may affect him some. We will see what the effects are when he pitches again. He may just have been overly amped being back in Oakland. Or maybe he just had a bad couple of days. Or perhaps his early season run has been an illusion.

I think it was
fatigue (past 3 appearances 20+ Pitches)
return to Oakland
Saturday coming in to a situation he wasn't ready for
usual rough patches (Aroldis Chapman who was perfect until 2 weeks ago has run into a very rough spot)

I'm not gonna sweat over K-Seeya. They set up on the outside and it looks like he just made a pitching mistake and serves Norris at the letters.

Meanwhile, Dogs lose 5-3.
