I had a unique experience with this playoff run as I was in Europe on my honeymoon for basically the whole thing. I woke up in the middle of the night for every game and followed along on my phone. I got very little sleep for nearly three weeks but it was worth it.

Scutaro is hitting .312 / .365 / .408 / .773 for the season so far ... what's bad about that? If he finishes the year with that, it would be one of the best seasons of his career.

I'll also address the issue of "what's wrong with the Giants", which you alluding to.

You probably don't follow the Giants that closely - the answer is injuries. Pagan (leadoff) has been out over a month and will probably be out for two more (surgery). Scutaro was HBP about 3 weeks ago - although it didn't fracture his finger, it did severely damage a tendon in the finger (a condition called "mallet finger").

Pablo Sanchez was on the DL 15 days (foot injury) and hasn't been the same since.

One of the starting pitchers (Vogelsong - you might remember him since he started game 3 of the WS and he, along with 2 relievers, shut out Detroit) is also injured. HBP, fractured hand, will be out quite a while.

Vogelsong's injury caused the team to use their long-relief guy (Gaudin) from the pen for several starts, which had an effect on the pen, of course. Him not being available for long relief meant the pen got tired. Then he was hit in the elbow by a line drive and is now on the DL.

Giants called up a youngster from AAA to replace Gaudin (adding him to the 40-man roster) but he just wasn't ready and hasn't pitched well.

The same day Vogelsong was injured, one of the best relievers also went on the DL, needing knee surgery for a cist.

etc., etc.

It's just been a bad year for injuries to key personnel. It's bad enough for a team when ONE of the key players is injured, but we've really been hammered. Our leadoff guy is out since May, the guy hitting 2nd (Scutaro) was injured but is trying to play through it, The #3 batter was out and hasn't been the same since he came back 10 days ago, we've lost a starting pitcher and two of the better relievers. That's a pretty brutal start to the season, and the standings reflect it.

I find that if you don't poke the trolls, there's *some* chance that they might go back to sleep under the bridge - it's just no fun if nobody plays.

I'm glad Uribe got his revenge out of the way in July. I knew it had to be coming at some point in at least one game (I believe he has had two, but others were never as "great" as last night). In terms of cost analysis, it means nothing, but it would have felt worse in September. Hey, Stokesy, how is that series record looking after a first-game loss?
