A GM can try to tank... But the players that are put on the field are not thinking about tanking... They're thinking about being competitive, playing hard, while auditioning for their next job...

That's why as a GM it's your job to shove a few down some stairs or something. C'mon Anointed...

Honestly, to be serious, the Jets were never tanking. Not even in the F.O. They have been drafting some decent players. Their problem was Adam Gase somehow was able to sell them on him being a good NFL HC. He has alienated half the team and has no clue how to run a team or handle in game decisions. The dude will be a good used car salesman or realtor selling people lemons. That is the one management decision that has cost them more than any other. We could get into the Sam Darnold debate and his turnover problems have followed him from college but that draft was a crapshoot. And at the time, Darnold was the best on the board. Nobody saw what Jackson would become or what an improvement Josh Allen could have by year 3.
Now they have a big decision to make. Draft Fields at #2, trade Darnold for picks and hope Fields can be the guy. Or find a really good HC who hires a competent staff, trade that pick for a bunch of draft capital to maybe Washington or somebody in dire need of a QB and see if they can work with Darnold. Watching Darnold, the kid has moxie and wants to win. But can he stay healthy and can he avoid the mistakes? These are the big questions the Jets have to think long and hard about. Lawrence was a no brainer but Fields may or may not pan out.

I don't buy into this idea that Gase and the coaching staff are coaching to lose. There's really no incentive for Gase to try to lose for the #1 pick since he knows that he won't be the coach next season and won't benefit from the #1 regardless. I don't think any coach or player on the Jets is actively trying to lose the game so that they can get the #1 pick.
Exactly, he won't be there next season and doesn't want to remembered along with the 0-16 Lions as being that coach

The way the Patriots are playing the Jets might get their 2nd win of the season as well
Nah somebody was just saying 2 weeks ago that Belichick should be coach of the year, they can't lose

Lol. Starting Cam Newton at QB at this point in his career should disqualify anybody from COTY consideration. Just sayin.

I agree and continuing to throw him out there
