but that is why, in the books, the prophecy of Cersei dying at the hands of her younger brother makes even more sense.

In the books, did Robert and Cersei have a child? In S1 she told Catelyn about her and Robert's child dying. I have not figured if that was a true story or just something made up to comfort Catelyn. If true, the witch's prophesy was wrong.

To me, he never was really on a redemption arc. It spins his saving Brienne to more of a means to an end … getting an outstanding swordsman on his side. he had the chance to change but in the end he never did. I am going to rewatch the series after the finale and see if it changes my thoughts on his actions.

Every bad thing Jaime did was in some way tied to his obsessive love for Cersei. He was never evil to his core. He just did evil things because Cersei was evil to her core.
