The flyers controlled play after the first period, but most of the shots on holtby were one and done. Not many screens, only a few deflections, rarely crashing the net, and a handfull of missed opportunities.

Had a meeting with our Board of Directors so only made it home in time for the last 10+ minutes. What I saw was exactly what you stated - little real pressure on Holtby, and in fact they had trouble even getting in the o-zone at times. The couple of good scoring chances that they had resulted in a flubbed shot by Giroux and Vinny's cluelessness about how to position your skate when you're near the crease.

Nobody crashing the net and no screens because we played scared and weak. Nobody wanted to get in the dirty areas to score was clear as day they didn't want any part of Washington.

The game was really well played by both teams positionally, it was just that one deflection.
The Caps did a better job at times of crashing the net, but it didn't pay off for them either.

The Flyer forwards back checked well, everyone seemed to be up on their skates.

It looked at times IMHO that the Caps were ceding the puck and any damage done to Braden Schenn in order to cover Giroux and Jake. He had a couple of wicked looks and just couldn't hit the net. Same for Belmare.

It was a frustrating loss, but it was one that they showed up and played well and were just not able to crack the other teams goalie. It is much easier to take than the nights they just toss their sticks out for a period or more.
