Is it too late to tank the rest of the season for draft picks (this can be done by calling up everyone from the 40-man roster and playing only the minor league guys in September)? 70-92 would be good enough for 5th from bottom if one wants to pursue that route.

Hence the "play only September call-ups for a month" idea... because you might be able to get away with fielding a 3A team that is technically playing their best.

EDIT: I see your point, though. After all, even playing 0.300 ball the rest of the way would result in a record around 79-83, which wouldn't help much.

Hardy has a 101 OPS+. Not great, but it's better than most shortstops. And Hardy's an excellent defender.

We aren't a horrible team but we are like the rays. When we get a little lucky, we'll make the playoffs as a wild card and get knocked out quickly. When we don't get lucky, we'll have years like this where we are above average but miss the playoffs. Only way we get better is to get some elite pitching.
