ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced the club has placed forward Andy McDonald on Injured Reserve today. McDonald is listed as week-to-week after suffering a left knee injury during practice yesterday at St. Louis Mills. In addition, the Blues have listed forward Alex Steen as day-to-day with an upper body injury. Steen was also injured during yesterday’s practice.

Man, practice for da Blues yesterday must've been rough...

Injuries in games are bad enough in practice is just brutal. Of course the best one this year has to be Booth injuring himself during his physical. That's going to be hard to beat.

So far this year's PANCAKES AWARD (AKA THE PENNER) should go to Booth.

Could have been bad ice (ruts) etc. Sven Baertschi of the Flames tweaked his hip flexor and missed about 2 1/2 weeks hitting a rut in the ice.

Is Battle Drill now trending on twitter?

There’s been a lot made about the drill that injured Steen and McDonald. Let’s just get this straight…

This was more of a game than a “battle drill.”

Did it have battling elements in the drill? Yes it did, which isn’t uncommon for any NHL team. The Blues incorporate battling elements into their practice plan almost every day. A better description here would be to call it a competitive drill where the object is to score.

Usually “battle drills” are played along the boards not in the middle of the ice as was the case this time.

It was unfortunate to see two of the Blues top players go down with injury but to flat out blame it on the drill is slightly excessive.

The only issue I had is the timing of it. The players had been on the ice for over an hour and you could argue it was time to get off. I’m not a huge proponent of these drills in the middle of the season but with several days between games the coaching staff felt there would be some benefit.

As one player told me, if you watched our recent games it’s clear our battle level could be turned up a notch.

Again these weren’t gladiators battling it out in the coliseum trying to kill one another.

Canucks forward Tom Sestito has sustained a hip flexor injury at today's Canucks practice in Columbus.
Associate Coach Rick Bowness announced the injury after practice, stating the big winger caught a rut in the ice and tweaked his hip...leaving the practice early.
It is unclear if Sestito will be available for Vancouver's next game in Minnesota on Sunday.

Yep He had surgery on his ACL they said it usually takes one year to completely heal.

The Sabres do get Tyler Ennis and Ville Leino back for the Ottawa game Saturday. I'm going to that game with my son, daughter in law and grandson. The little man love the Sabres ! It should be a fun night.
