Football is a game played outdoors, always has been. The weather conditions are just part of the game and affect both teams equally.

In fact it's unfair that Southern teams never have to play in adverse weather conditions, while Northern teams have to build their teams around the ability to play in cold, wind, rain or even snow.
Bowl games are not played in the North because people do not want to spend hard earned money freezing. It is what it is and it will not change so you're going to have to let this go.

If you want to play us in the snow then stop the idiotic tradition of playing all your OCC games at the beginning of the year and give some of these team's a home and home deal.

Auburn would give pretty much any BCS major conference team a game but few want to play us so we typically deal with ACC, and an occasional big 12 team and once a decade a PAC team.

Write Jim delany and your AD but quit bitching.

Yeah, freezing your rear-end off while watching a football game is a real measure of manhood ...

... well, to you anyway.

The rest of us just call it stupid.

As a Tampa resident, I strongly approve of hosting a championship game here.

Tampa has hosted the Super Bowl in 1983, 1990, 2000, and 2008. Four times. There is a reason the NFL has chosen Tampa as a location four times. We have plenty of hotel space. We have several beaches in the area and even in January/February the weather is usually warm enough to enjoy them. We have multiple theme parks in the area. (Busch Gardens, Sea World, Disney, Universal Studios). We have a good selection of bars, clubs, restaurants. We have an excellent selection of strip clubs.

I look forward to seeing Georgia Tech play for the national championship that year here in Tampa ;)

Glendale hosts the Fiesta Bowl every year, the Superbowl in 2015 and now the National title game in 2016.

I swear Glendale is the home of the best football games.

Some folks think the games need to be hosted in a 'touristy' destination with plenty of stuff to do.

This is simply not true. Most folks coming into town for the game are only staying one or two nights, with an occasional few folks perhaps staying three nights.

There only needs to be two things available in the area: plenty of hotel rooms, and plenty of restaurants.....with perhaps two more optional items--- 1) a couple casinos and 2) some live music clubs (piano bars, jazz clubs, blues bars, etc.)

That's it folks. People coming into town for a couple days for the game & it's accompanying sponsored activities do not have time for any other crap.

So folks who like to boast that a certain area has world class beaches or world class museums or world class ski resorts or world class shopping are not looking at things realistically/practically.

Again.....hotels, restaurants.....and perhaps some casinos and live music clubs.....that's all ya need.

However, if it's a northern destination...you also need a couple more things------ 1) a lid on the stadium so folks don't freeze their asses off and 2) plenty local coffee shops.

.....continued.....so as an example.....even a city such as Detroit could potentially host a CFP NCG because Detroit actually has all that stuff I mentioned above...that's why Super Bowl XL, held February 2006 in Detroit was such a success. Many folks were skeptical about Detroit hosting a Super Bowl, but it was an amazing success, and many folks were pleasantly surprised how well Detroit did in hosting the Super Bowl.

Check this out from just a few days ago by Fodor's Travel:

Detroit's cool image lands it on top of tourist buzz list for 2014 | Detroit Free Press | freep.com

I'm not pushing for the Motor City to host a game, I'm just saying that traditional 'touristy' areas are not necessary in order to successfully host a big game event.

So, even in the epoch of domed stadiums and HDTV, what we are really saying is.....

"Southern Home Field Advantage for Eternity."

Is that it?

Northern teams rarely ever have to play in below freezing weather, or very cold weather. And if they do, they might play 1 or 2 games at the most in cold weather. Stop being a drama queen. Also, remind me where the B1G CCG is played?

.

Simply, astoundingly wrong.

A running team is affected much less than a team that has built a team around a quick-pass spread attack.

Both are legitimate and within the rules, and one is SO MUCH MORE hampered by adverse weather.

Nothing wrong with playing a Championship game up North in the freezing cold winter. Southern's can bitch all they want. Football was meant to be played outdoors in whatever weather condition that occurs. Do I think it gives northern teams a slight advantage? Yes. But I also believe when a northern team goes to play down south and its 90-100 degrees out, I think the Southern team has an advantage for dealing with heat exhaustion and cramps. Championship games should be rotated north and south for an even slate. The true college fans in the local region/team will still attend the games regardless.

I want to see a spectacle of the best, most skilled athletes in their sport performing at their very best.... not trudging through snow and mud trying to grip a slippery ball.

EXACTLY!

IMO, the four northern cities (Detroit, Indianapolis, St Louis, Minneapolis) which chose to build indoor stadiums were very wise in doing so, as they realized they would have a better shot at attracting/hosting big game events (not just football). I applaud these four cities for their long-term vision. I can't wait to see the new Vikings stadium when it's finished in a couple years...it should be a fantastic venue.

I also applaud the four northern cities (Buffalo, Chicago, Green Bay, Kansas City) which chose to renovate their existing outdoor stadiums, as opposed to construct new facilities.

But what I see as unwise decisions, are the ten northern cities (Seattle, Denver, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Baltimore, NY/NJ, Washington, New England/Foxborough) which all chose to build new outdoor stadiums within the previous 15 years. IMO, those ten cities hurt/reduced their opportunities to host major events by not choosing to build indoor stadiums. In other words........For cryin' out loud, if you're going to build a brand new northern stadium, have the smarts/wisdom to build an indoor facility...otherwise, you mind as well should just renovate your old stadium if you're gonna stick with an outdoor venue.

In approx 7 weeks (2-2-2014), the very first outdoor northern Super Bowl will be held at Met Life Stadium in New Jersey. If the NJ weather sucks on Groundhog Day-February 2nd-Super Bowl Sunday, the NFL might regret having chosen this venue.

There is a reason that so many retirees from the north move south when they're done working, and it's because nobody likes the fucking cold. I've lived in Minneapolis for years. I'm used to shitty weather, but it doesn't mean I like it, nor do I really want to watch a football game in it given the choice of watching it where it's 70 degrees out.
