The Overview
For the first time since we started doing the Future Power Rankings, the Rangers are not No. 1. While some may criticize them for allowing core players such as Josh Hamilton, C.J. Wilson and Mike Napoli to walk as free agents, they deserve credit for discipline and sticking to their philosophy of not overvaluing any one player. Even without Hamilton, this team will be competitive for years to come, though it might take a small step back in 2013. -- Buster Olney

Well said Buster Olney, well said

No reason they shoudn't be, a lot of the weight goes to the ML roster, plus they have excellent finances and management is pretty solid most of the time

They only really get knocked b/c they have no farm system to speak of

With the money they have wrapped up in aging players and zero farm system I don't know how they can be projected that high outside of the next 2-3 years.

b/c they'll have a lot of those same players 5 years for now, and like it or not Pujols probably won't fall off the cliff like many people here hope, same with Hamilton

Are they worth the money? no, but thats not what the article is about

And if your gripe is that the Angels are projected to be the 12th best team in the future, then thats really kinda pointless, 12TH BEST thats not even a playoff team

Keep in mind, excellent finances, they can always get more players, as Pujols and Hamilton show, they refused to be hamstrung by bad contracts (Wells)

LAA has long had considered the way to the post season on a recurring basis was with roster built on FA acquisitions rather than through its system. Only team to successfully use this strategy IMO have been NYY and BOS.

Wells, Wilson, Pujols, Hamilton and deadline trade for Greinke haven't worked out for them but once a team takes that route they have no option other than waiting out 4 - 5 years for the farm to deliver and hoping to suck enough in the interim to draft high.

I'm loving watching the competition for roster spots by guys who actually played for Hickory, Myrtle Beach/Bakersfield and Frisco.

I think the A's and M's are very undervalued. While I think the A's were more of a cinderella story last season, I think they will develop into an even better team in the next couple years....The M's made some significant moves to their lineup, they added some much needed power and with their home field being shorter, I think we will see a lot more runs being scored by them. Add to the fact that they have a very solid farm system, they could be dangerous in the next couple years and I think could be a dark horse to make the playoffs this season.

The problem with the A's is they played over their heads in many ways last year offensively, at least that's the perception for now, now everybody is thinking "yeah right, show me that again" Also the projection is hurt by the fact that they graduated a lot of players from their farm system in order to achieve this success, so finances hurt them a lot when trying to retain these players in a few years

Seattle is undervalued b/c they have pitching and a park that also helps mediocre pitchers, issue is always the hitting, if any of those young guys prove they are for real hitters, ie Montero... Finances don't hurt them like the A's because they have shown a willingness to spend money, so I think that's why they're undervalued

If Brett Anderson stays healthy the entire year the A's will be more than a darkhorse.
