:rip:

Those WW I and WW II infantry dudes had elephant ballz.

Whenever I see the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan I wonder if the modern generation could mount the courage to do such a thing. Same goes for the infantry divisions in the Pacific theater.
From my own military experience, I generally come to the conclusion that they could if necessary.

I went to a funeral when I was a little kid once.

To my surprise there was a dead guy there....so I've never went to another since.

I have all the respect in the werld for vets.

There are always a handful of guys who are just so damn dumb that they end up being the bravest of the brave though. My mind would never allow me to be that kind of soldier I don't think......I calculate shit too much. I'd be thinking I was gonna die the entire time while at war.

You telling me you wouldn't gouge a mother fuckers eyeballs completely out of their sockets to save your own life or to protect the ones you love.

That is why I inevitably come to the conclusion that the modern generation would step up just the same if they had to.

War is hell. Kill or be killed.

He was a sharp shooter an lost an eye. Got a purple heart. If I was in the service I would be a sniper and be as far away from the action as possible

My Mom, Dad, wife, and I went to see the movie Saving Private Ryan at the theater. Afterwards, a man and his son approached my Dad and asked him if he had fought in WW2. When he said yes, they both thanked him for his service to our country. My Dad, a Purple Heart recipient, teared up then.

I asked my Dad what he had thought of the movie, and he said it was very realistic, and it brought back a lot of memories from his battle time experience. He fought in the Battle of The Bulge.

Same here.

I shot a stop sign one time from a block away with my bb gun while the wind was blowin real hard......and that is how I know I would make a great sniper.

I suppose it was because he was an elderly man. He was 81 back in 1998. I thought it was a really nice gesture by those two, and evidently my Dad did also.

LOL. The first clue would be his age, JJM.

If the dude was between 77 and 84 the odds were about 70% that he served in the military in some capacity during WWII.

Hard to fathom, but true.

About 70% of US males between 18-25 either enlisted or were drafted during WWII.

My dad was too young to serve, but my oldest uncle enlisted "the first time" in 1941.

They were processing so many guys it was pretty easy to slip through the cracks if you lied about your age. He ran away from home at the age of 15 (just shy of 16) and joined the Army.
He was 6'4 so they assumed he was old enough. My other uncle (14 at the time) ratted him out to my Grandma so she informed the military that he'd gone in. He made it all the way to basic training by train before they tracked him down and figured out who he really was. They sent him home and my grandma signed the consent form for him to go in a year later when he turned 17 in 1942. He told her if she didn't sign he was gonna run away again. :dhd:

It was the cool thing to join the military back then.

My Dad fought in the Battle of the Bulge also. He once said WWII happened because Hitler thought he had to fart against silk.

It is insane how many people go to funerals and end up getting laid.
