since mattola started a draft thread how about a free agency thread

canucks update: Kevin Bieksa, Christian Ehrhoff and Sami Salo all suggest they would take less to remain Canucks. UFAs as of July 1

nice to hear ... but money does talk ... ask them again when they get a crazy offer presented to them

And I'd think Bieksa will get a good, if not crazy, offer thrown at him.

Maybe he really does love the city of Vancouver. If I were on that level, money wouldn't mean much to me. I would just want to be loved by the people and would take less money to remain. Maybe Bieksa feels the same? They definitely love him there.

Setoguchi, Ferriero, Desjardins are RFA

Wallin, Huskins, White, Eager, Nichol, Wellwood, Mayers are UFA

I would like them to resign White, Wellwood, Nichol, Seto.

Trade Mitchell, and Nitty and get some help on D.

Get Wallin, Huskins, and Eager far away from San Jose.

Quite happy about that. It lowers the chance of Doug Wilson overpaying a shitty defenseman, again.

Wallin's season could be sumed up by one stretch of events. I do not remember the game but it was tied or the Sharks were up by one. Late in the third the puck came to Wallin who whiffed trying to clear it and it landed right on the opposing dmans stick. Wallin then fell down and let the guy skate right by him to score the winning or tying goal. :L

sami salo? really? I thought this was the end of the line for him. I would not want to put high money on him. too unreliable for injury and he wont use his shot anyway so I dont see why. Id rather have Tanev come in and build.

yah i thought it was the end of the road for Sami but I think it was puckhead who made a good point saying Salo couldnt have rehabbed from that achilles injury last summer just for the rest of this season

Gillis said today they want to bring him back ... they can do a bonus laden contract since he's over 35

Gillis also said Ballard will be at training camp

we will see whether today was all lip service (from everyone)

UFA Bieksa on extension: "There's loyalty for sure. I'm pretty optimistic that we can reach an agreement. It shouldn't be too hard to do."

UFA Salo on taking pay cut to stay: "For sure. The latter part of my career, it's a good chance to repeat and it's a perfect fit for me."

I think he will probably be locked up long before July 1. He's got to be Gillis' #1 priority.

jstew posted the Ed Willes quotes. Seems Salo is comfortable with #5 role going forward.
hell of an option for the powerplay, and brilliant depth incase someone needs to take bigger minutes.

Why do I keep hearing that Bieksa is going to sign with Detroit? Have there been a lot of rumors about that or something?

Devils will be a non factor in free agency. Although if they fail to resign Andy Greene, he could be a steal for a team looking for a 2nd pairing guy on D.

because he would fit in really nicely on that d group. tough as nails, can move the puck, not afraid to jump in.
just wishful thinking, i'd guess. anything other than that, and it would be tampering.
