This may have already been answered but yes. You can pardon someone for a crime committed that has not been charged or convicted yet. However, you cannot protect against ongoing crimes or future crimes, only past ones. And it only applies to federal crimes, not state or local ones.

To that end, I think what Giuliani and Don Jr. said to the crowd was very culpable. What Trump said skirted the line and I think he's probably in the clear, though if you consider the totality of his conduct, there's certainly something to explore.
