Probably not illegal since they're asking for poll watchers specifically. Generally, Rs and Ds are allowed to have one watcher at each polling location, where they're supposed to watch for 'irregularities'. In low population/uncontested areas they sometimes don't bother, but they can.

Although poll watchers technically work for the party and not any one candidate, well, obviously Trump is the party.

Also, from Kansas' elections website:

What Poll Agents May Not Do:

1. Approach within three feet of a voting booth or a table used by an election board.

2. Touch or handle a ballot.

3. Participate in the administration of ballots or ballot counting.

4. Hinder or obstruct any voter when entering or exiting a polling place or while voting.

5. Hinder or obstruct an election board in the performance of its duties.

So it doesn't specifically say they can't wear Trump stuff or pull a loaded .22 on a minority with a Biden button so I'm guessing it's okay.

Federal punishments only happen after the fact though. Yes, it's wrong for "watchers" to disrupt voting but that doesn't mean they won't. They go, fuck things up and people leave without voting and then maybe 8 months down the line they get fined which the party pays for because it's a good investment. It's why they are fighting so hard against early and mail in voting. Their intimidation and suppression tactics don't work when people have more than one 10 hour window to vote.

In the 60's they used to have people dress as cops to "watch" polling places in Baltimore City. Those people would ask voters about outstanding warrants as they were walking in.
