Former Seahawk Brandon Mebane thinks Chargers are better than Seattle | Fox News

Brandon Mebane spent his first nine years in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks, helping them win the franchise's first Super Bowl.

But after spending just a few months with the San Diego Chargers, the veteran defensive tackle is confident in saying that his new team is better than his former club.

"Offense, defense, there's so much talent on this team," Mebane told the San Diego Union-Tribune. "It's unreal. I was telling guys, there's more talent on this defense than in Seattle. If you look at the draft, you've got four first-round draft picks. You've got five second-round draft picks, all total on defense. In Seattle, we only had two first rounders and one second rounder. Everybody else was pretty much down in the draft or undrafted.

"If we put it together and just play together and work on our skill, I think the sky is the limit for this defense. It's amazing. Based on the skill and the talent level, it's there. All we have to do is believe in each other and play together. Man, it's unreal."

Mebane signed a three-year deal in March with the Chargers. San Diego finished tied for 21st in points allowed (24.9) and 20th in total yards allowed (5,791) last season. The 6-1, 309-pound veteran, who has 15 1/2 sacks career sacks, could help the team solidify its defensive line.

Today I learned Brandon Mebane thinks "talent" means what round you were drafted in.

Anyone want to link to an article where a guy goes to play for a new team and publicly tells them they're clearly all worse than that Super Bowl contender he just came from?

This non-story is pretty funny.

The Chargers are talented from an athletic standpoint... but ownership, front office, coaching and the mental makeup of the players in general are all suspect. This latest addition notwithstanding.

There is a lot of talent on the defense, but Seattle has PROVEN the talent on defense they have can be great no matter where they were drafted. 9 1st and 2nd round defensive players is nice, but it's more of an "on paper" accomplishment until they do it in the games. Pagano has no excuses this year for the Chargers to not be at least average on defense if not top 10. I would have understood it more if Mebane said "this defense has the potential to be as good or possibly better than the Seahawks defense", even though that'd still be tough to live up to. Hopefully he can try and prove it against his old team in the SB :hope:

Eh. We've seen this before.

Walter Thurmond went to the Giants and in the offseason claimed that they had a better secondary than Seattle.

Golden Tate went to the Lions and in the offseason claimed that they had a better team.

......then the regular season started and reality crept up and kicked them right in the nutsacks.

Mebane claiming that the Chargers have a better D than Seattle (which is what the article actually stated) when the Seahawks have led the league in scoring D 4 years running and SD finished 20th last year is just plain stupid, but it is the kind of offseason FA optimisim stupidity that we have come to expect.

Why are people ever surprised when a player leaves one team for another and thinks the new team is better? What is he supposed to say? That his new team isn't as good as his old team?

Yea, no animosity there, huh ???....He's probably forgetting that everybody looks great in practice and/or on paper....Rivers is a top tier qb so their O is always a threat, but that D compared to Seattle's ????
Bosa is good but he can't be the whole D....That boy needs to leave the pipe alone for a while...:2cents:

Weird remark. When's Mebane ever been flaky?

What's he supposed to say? 'These new guys are a bunch of spoiled self-entitled prima-donna's and we're going to suck?'

Why would he do that when he can get world-class, legal Escondido chronic down there?

SoCal shit > Washington shit

But yeah, back on topic.

Chargers > Seahawks

It's just a better organization (even with Spanos at the top).

Again, what's he supposed to say?

The right thing; that the Chargers are a better franchise than the Seahawks.

LOL....we are not there yet. We have no O line, and consequently an anemic running game. Our secondary is crap. As long as the Spanos own the Chargers, we are doomed to mediocrity.

Hammer, to help the Olympic judges get ready for this summer, we had them grade your trolling effort:

3.1, 2.8, 2.5, 3.9, 9.2 (damned Russian judges).

Spanos picked AJ over Marty. That cost us a Super Bowl win and the rest has been history.

(and yet somehow the Chargers are still a better franchise than the Seahawks)

I'm assuming this panel of judges is made up of Russians, French, and Patriots fans? :noidea:
