In a year marked by a pair of ratings-hogging quadrennial events and a whole lot of Beltway intrigue, the NFL in 2021 effectively swallowed TV whole, accounting for 41 of the top 50 most-watched programs, and 75 of the top 100. In doing so, the league not only silenced the torrent of uninformed hooting and clucking that greeted last season’s COVID-related ratings declines, but it also justified the huge rights-fee increases it brokered with its legacy partners.

All those predicting doom and gloom pretty much got it wrong completely.

I was told (and still for that matter) that Kaepernick would bring the NFL to ruins.

I guess they've moved on to spamming Lebron's twitter account with "LeChina" nowadays.

I musta missed ALL those predicting doom and gloom. I mean there is an idiot on every street corner but who were all those people?

Only problem with the NFL is from within. Politically Correct and Greed are hard acts to balance...but Doom & Gloom??

Truth is, theses days the NFL is practically the only thing on network television worth watching. Most people are streaming uncut, new release movies and watching grittier and better dramatic series on Netflix, Prime or wherever. The NFL doesn't have much real competition on regular cable anymore so this is no surprise.

If you watch more than one game on Saturday or Sunday, you are missing out on life
Well
I've been doing that on many occasions for 50 plus years now. I think after 45 years of marriage, 3 sons and 9 grandkids, I hadn't missed a whole lot.
Thanks for your concerns.

This^^^^.

I don't watch local TV or network TV or cable TV. We stream Netflix or Amazon, but we don't just put the idiot box on just to have commercials and other noise thrown at us.

I don't watch the NFL either. Virtue signaling and kneeling have pissed the GF off. She also hates anything she thinks is violent, which is practically anything other than stupid sitcoms and game shows.

It's the total failure of network TV that's increasing NFL ratings, not the NFL. The only drama in this year's playoff race has been fighting among the bottom feeders for the extra wild-card slots, which we don't need anyway.
