For the Cap people

I just read that we are working out 3 cbs today . 3 players I have never heard of. Is it cheaper to sign one of them than it is to resign Sterling Moore or a vet like Nate Clements who is probably better suited for FS now. The only reason I bring up Clements is to see if there is a change in salary. I actually like Moore and dont understand why he was cut in the first place. If it is cheaper- how much???

Is this really a cap question? I know there is a veteran exemption on part of their salary in some cases, but this is just a Math question, no?

They bring 3 in at one time because of the limited amount of time the coaches and scouts have. They just want to see if they are in shape and healthy and willing to play cheap. The fact that there are three guys there adds a sense of urgency to whoever they want if they negotiate a contract as well

If you are going to sign someone why not sign someone that already knows your system - Sterling Moore- instead of a guy that you are going to watch for 1 day. Im sure they have seen tape on the other guys as well. It just doesnt make that much sense to me. Kind of like if the position was WR- bringing in 3 new guys and you cut Armstrong. Just an example

Because it cost nothing against the cap to bring them in for a look, and they just may be better than the guys we have on the PS. If they see nothing they like they all get ent home. Think about it this way. If you are in the market for a used car, and you found 5 that have interesed you. So you go out look at the 1st, but you are not impressed, you look at the 2nd one and think it very well is the one you want. Do you not at least look at the other three?

Claiborne had a dislocated shoulder in week one and may not be able to play

I know Pellerin is on the practice squad or at least he was.

We need another CB. My point was that whomever gets more hurts your cap more. I'm not saying that there is no difference in the cap hit of a veteran or a "nobody", my point was it doesn't take a cap expert to see that.

And thats what I was asking. How much more money would it cost to sign Moore compared to one of these other guys . Moore played in critical games down the stretch last yr. Clements has plenty of money. He doesnt need it. Again not that I want Clements , although it is wierd how is out there and the nature of the game these days. Moore is 23 or 24. He probably would play for cheap. Webb is not ready and it is a decent draft pick so I understand not cutting ties with him.

I think one of the reasons why we cut Moore was because we didn't want to guarantee his contract for the full year. He would seem the likely pick up. But, it could also be that we already decided to call up Pellerin and are just looking to replace him on the practice squad with one of these guys.
