I don't really blame either team for this. Both are legal plays. If anything I give props to both teams for not giving into the other's strategy. If anything I partly blame the stupid loser point/3 point game for this nonesense. In a tie game what motivation is there to take a chance? Both teams could just do that all night and guarantee themselves at least a point and then playoff for the bonus point. Obviously it wouldn't go on all night but both teams seemed fine with letting it go on as long as possible thus increasing their chances of getting at least 1 point and still having a chance for a 2nd.
