stupid stupid stupid. Zherdev giving it 50% is still better than shelley and carcillo combined giving it 101%

He wouldn't really be competing for Shelley's minutes though.

I feel your frustration though. The Penguins like players that put forth the effort, which means players with 2% skill and 98% effort get the nod over players with 60% skill and 40% effort. I respect the former more, but would like to see the latter play more hockey.

I see no reason for the Penguins to not take him. He may not be great, but he's got talent. They don't need to worry about cap room, and he's only on a one-year contract. If he doesn't work out, we can scratch him or put him on waivers ourselves with no cost.

Shero is interested in another forward. I am sure Zherdev will got to Pittsburgh, get 3 goals against us in our 2 games left, and he is never heard of again.

I'm so thankful for that man. Because the thought of him being anywhere else...is scary. Insane how good he is at his job. Makes me feel bad for teams with very passive GMs, I really think those guys just are too scared to put their pride on the line.

I would do it. What exactly do they have to lose on this? Hope he's playing for a contract. Apparently, he asked to move (obv Philly wasn't using him). Give him a shot. We're playing 6 AHLer's a game.

Loki, i think he would be this season's Alexei Ponikarovsky if they brought him in. Just would frustrate the piss out of the fans with the whole "i try when i want to" attitude.

But what did that cost us really? Luca Caputi? That's it. And taking a chance on Zherdev would cost us even less. Nothing to be exact. It's a good opportunity to add talent without giving up any assets. If he doesn't work out, we dump him, and cut our (no) losses.

I understand why he's a risk, and obviously that he's a frustrating player because he clearly has talent, but when it's a waiver wire pick up, you really have nothing to lose. Money isn't an issue at this point.

Quote from the link in the original article.....

If someone claims Zherdev, the cost is about $400,000 unless that team has a player on long-term injury. Then they would assume his full salary.

Penguins will assume his full salary, once again no thanks, useless floater in Columbus, New York and Philly. You still want him???

I guess I'd just be okay with it because Kovy seems like the other possibility (or Cory Stillman) and Zherdev is the cheapest and we don't give up any of our few assets. And Kovy isn't the hardest worker either.

I will take my chances in the playoffs with a healthy Crosby, Kunitz, Letestu and Jeffrey. No need to bring in Zherdev, Kovy imo. The only place those 2 could possibly help this team would be on the PP. And saying that, i will still pass on them.

Since 87 and 71 have gone down, there have been 3 games the penguins have not been in. CBJ, NYI and WAS on super bowl sunday, most others have been 1 goal games. I think those 4 healthy players can account for a goal a game somewhere along the line. Save the picks, the money, prospects etc... If anything bring in a d-man with some experience as a depth move.

Hell, i would take Duffman in the lineup over those 2 slugs.

Aside from having a cancer that won't fit anywhere on your team......you're right Pix.....there is nothing to lose.

Just save yourselves the ag....let him take his sorry ass back to the KHL where laziness is a job requirement. :)

Bahahahahahahah, well said. The ice is bigger so they can float more. Well, regardless we should know in the next 30 minutes or so who did or didn't pick him up.

And Sbb, I'm actually pumped for Duffman to return. He's only a few weeks out. He'll be a big help. He seriously has talent, he's scored 30+ with crap on his line.
