Hmm...

The Hockey News has Leino listed as the Sabres #2 Center behind Derek Roy. They also pick Buffalo to finish 5th in the East with Philly finising 4th. So there's a chance for a rematch to settle this.

Roy was having his best season before he got hurt. Over a point a game and plays on the PP and PK very underrated player. He will be fine this year.

The big improvement for the Sabres this year I think will be the defense.

Myers Regehr
Ehrhoff Leopold

That's a top 4 that can battle any team in either conference. I'm not saying they're the best. I'm saying the additions of Regehr & Ehrhoff are BIG upgrades.

I really don't understand what Calgary was thinking when they traded Regehr. Buffalo actually got the Flames 2nd round pick in 2012 in the deal as well.

I am excited about the Sabres defense this year, Esp with Miller and Enroth in net it will be hard to score on this group. They finally have top notch defense men to help them out.

You should be excited. Your team is definately on the rise. Another thing to consider is come deadline time Regier has some chips he can play with if he feels the Sabres need help during the stretch run & the postseason. He'll definately have the okay to make a move. Darcy has always been a shrewd GM he's had to be. Now we'll find out what he can do without any constraints. On paper the Sabres look good.

That was the price that had to be paid to unload Kotalikmyballs - The Flames did unload a combined $7 million in Regehr and Kotalik and took back considerably less in Butler and Byron.

I remember Feaster saying they had to keep & utilize their draft picks because they've traded away so many in recent years. Then he trades away a 2nd round pick in a deep draft. I understand why they wanted to unload the salary. I just don't know why he'd say that & then trade a high pick.

I think management was adamant that they didn't want to pay another $3 million to a guy in the minors and unfortunately this meant parting with a 2nd round pick.

Disclaimer: I have no knowledge of this, I just have a feeling this is what happened.

It's got to be frustrating dash. Feaster could probably add a scoring winger for that pick come deadline time.

Yeah, well we'll just have to wait and see what happens and if the Flames are even in contention come deadline time.

By the way, replace management with ownership in my above post.

Hagman, Backlund & Baertschi looked good last night. So there is hope.

By all reports, Hagman worked out like a demon this past off-season and is leaner and quicker than he was last year. Backlund looks like he'll be starting the season between Tanguay and Iggy, that should excite most young players.

As for Baertschi, well he's a talented young player and I think he's likely headed back to Portland, but if keeps on playing well, you just never know.

Baertschi has got to be a better option than Glencross.

I like Glengarry (especially killing penalties) besides he mended fences with Brent Sutter in the off-season (literally, he spent time at his ranch repairing fences). Glencross is a keeper.

You're probably right. If Baertschi makes the team he should be in the top 6 anyway. He's got the skill.
