I've been checking in on that, but the only news I can find is indirect like this:

As Canucks Army’s Thomas Drance notes in that linked piece, the Panthers are in a tough spot to hang on to Garrison, given the $16 million they already have committed to five defensemen and the need to sign RFA’s Dmitry Kulikov and Keaton Ellerby.

Still, Panthers’ G.M. Dale Tallon has said that bringing Garrison back is a priority. “We’re trying to take care of our guys, get Kris [Versteeg] and Garrison signed,” Tallon told the Miami Herald, “We want to take care of the guys we have.”

If Florida can’t get Garrison under contract, it would seem that Vancouver would be his first choice. He’s from White Rock originally, and has been a Canucks fan all his life

It looks like Carle/Jagr/Voracek are going to tie up most of the rest of the available cap. I know about Jagr's leadership, but I'm less than sold on that move. But whatever: if Flyers are going to pick up a Dman, it all seems to come back to the same thing - can you move JVR and/or someone else?

flyers are looking at 8.25 in space.. + pronger's 4.9.. so 13.15 mil

4.75 for carle
4.25 for voracek
3 for jagr

leaves about 1 mil.. so you're right, a trade would have to happen.. but it seems like jvr and/or bob are probably going to get moved.. jvr would be an addition 4.6, bob (minus backup to replace him) is probably another 800k in savings

space w/out bob: 1.8mil
space w/out jvr: 5.6mil
space w/out both: 6.4 mil

i think those are pretty fair numbers for jagr/voracek/carle..

I think that because we had the tough cup series the year prior to versteeg getting here and with richie and carter running the locker room that they never made him feel welcome and his play showed. i think with the new regime the locker room would be a better place for Versteeg and he would flourish here. great 2 way hockey player.

sorry but I'm against resigning him for that much.(against resigning him-period).IMO if the Flyers do that, then guys like Wellwood and Read are going to be used for trade bait.

Both of them bring too much-energy,speed,penalty killing to let 1 or both go.

Im kinda on the fence on this one, i want him back but i was disappointed at his play towards the end i really like what he brings to the team in work ethic but the groin every few games flarring up gets annoying. He tries to dangle to much but he puts up points and gee played well with him. 6 of one half dozen of the other

i'm against resigning him at that number too.. it just seems like the two sides are closer than previously thought.. last week sometime news came out that the two sides were close to a new deal

if they could sign him at 2.5, and convince him to play on the 2nd or 3rd line, but 1st PP unit, i think they'd get a lot out of him.. not as many minutes, and 'easier' minutes, should keep him a little fresher for the end of the year.. but all that power play time should keep him happy with his 'role'.. all the while being in a position to mentor the young guys some more.. a line like voracek.couturier.jagr would be interesting to me..

flyers have a lot of options up front.. giroux, briere, schenn, couturier, talbot, and read can all play center or wing

from all my readings this week it looks like he's expected to sign somewhere between 4.25 and 4.75.. which is solid considering that 5mil market value

??

carle for that is a solid deal IMO.. he's probably going to be 2nd or 3rd most covetted dman in free agency this year (suter/garrison)

i can't rip this guy after every game to sit here and say i am happy that we are going to get him at what some consider a "good deal". i can't do it.

Carle at $5 million for 3 years? I'd take it.

Wait, you meant $5 million EACH?

Fuck what about dumping Shitty and that aweful 1.1 million for sitting on the bench? Unload that salary and give it to Voracek or a new dman.

that's if they even deem his ass worthy to sit on the bench. He dressed for 30 games and averaged about 3 1/2 - 4 minutes a game.

time to part ways
