49ers fifth-round pick Darius Fleming suffers torn ACL | ProFootballTalk

Reports were it was a hamstring tweak, but looks like the rook is done for the year. Too bad, as he was looking like a valuable STs player this year. Looks like Parys' roster spot is safe, and the door is open for Can Johnson to make the squad. Good thing we double-dipped at that spot.

That is very disappointing, feel for the guy. We've lost a rookie in the off-season the past two years. Hope it's not a trend that continues.

Hope Cam brings some consistency and helps shore up the depth.
If that happens I don't see any reason to bring in a vet, especially if it's for 3/4th string.

Good thing he signed his contract the day before.

Not really a huge deal since he was just depth anyways and would've very likely been the 4th OLB on the depth chart anyways.

Thankfully this thread isn't about Jenkins! Guess you can look at it that way. Door is wide open for Cam to earn a spot.

Tough break. He seemed like a nice guy who worked very hard to get out of a bad part of Chicago, and he was a core part of a very underrated Notre Dame defense. I think he'll be a good pro, and hopefully his health will allow him to prove me right.

I hope we don't have more injuries like this. Last year Byham and Bogan both went down before the preseason, and there were plenty of times later in the season where we could've really used another WR and a blocking TE.

god i hate these kind of injuries. injuries in the game are one thing but when they happen at practice or the off season just pisses me off.

all last season considered, we didn't have many of these major injuries. so on the 'injury front', it went our way.

these things are a part of football so now, others are very likely. its a question of to whom?

This is somewhat on-topic, but is it too much for me to think that the rookie pay scale will make it LESS likely that we would be able to pick up a "meaningful" June cap casualty? I just don't see a Larry Allen hitting the market given how tempered rookie signings now are with their slotted money. Maybe one slides by from a team that is utterly cap strapped, but it seems like all the teams (see Steelers, Pittsburgh) that needed cap relief already did what was needed PRIOR to the draft.

Just sayin' but what the fuck do I know?

I don't think we're likely to find a guy who was cut due to the cap at this point, but teams can now roll over their cap to next year. It's what made a guy like Haralson a possible cut for us, depending on the rookies. If a guy is getting paid too much, and a team can realize cap savings by cutting him, he'll get cut. There may be some lower-level talent out there.

Teams will also cut quality players at positions where they have a lot of depth.
