2013 NFL Mock Draft: Mel Kiper and Scouts Inc's second round mocks for the Buccaneers - Bucs Nation
I see this kind of Logic all the time and it is badly flawed.
"The issue I have with this pick is that he comes at a low value position for the Bucs and may not do enough as a pass rusher to be a huge upgrade, even over Derek Landri and Gary Gibson"
The Bucs were 32nd vs the Run in 2011, they were 1st vs the run in 2012. Yet people think the Bucs will automatically be 1 vs the run and last vs the pass in 2013.
There is the old saying, if you are not improving you are getting worse. The Bucs lost Roy Miller and, IMO, have replaced him well with Landri and Gibson. But that does not mean the Bucs will be great vs the run again, even if we resigned Miller.
Th Bucs were #1 for a lot of reasons, and not because they sucked in pass defense. The scheme they ran had 8 or 9 men in the box. If they can add a better NT that could maintain the Run Defense as well as let a LB or S worry about coverage more.
Of course if Revis is healthy then even better, but the Bucs should not Not select a DT because the Bucs are already good there. They can get better and need to. After all it is harder to maintain #1 then attain #1.
