You know how in baseball they have the Mendozza line?

They ought to make negative 7 the "Freotte Line" or the "Delhome Line" for a quarterback in any given game.

Or the Dalton playoff game line.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton intercepted by Tennessee Titans safety George Wilson - NFL Videos

Watch Gresham. He lines up on the left side. He comes back around to the right to block. Had he blocked the middle DT coming up, Dalton would have had extra time to get a better pass off. The DE coming around, which Gresham did block, was further away than the DT. Gresham simply had tunnel vision on that play.

Dalton's pass was behind Gio due to him releasing it earlier than he was ready to. Gio turned around "late" as he wasn't expecting the ball to be thrown so soon. It was a pass that you would still like to see Dalton get it out in front of Gio, no doubt. However, the pass-rush clearly got to Dalton before anyone was ready for it: Andy or Gio. Again, I believe if Gresham blocks the interior DL coming through, Dalton would have had just a split second longer to get a much better pass out, and Gio would have had that split second longer to react.

Yes, Dalton couldn't have had a split second longer, but that's a standard screen play to the back. The QB never has much time there.

And if you watch the 2nd replay, Bernard had his head turned around as the ball was still on Dalton's fingertips. The ball was thrown well behind Bernard and high. It was a poor pass.

Rule #1: It's never Gio's fault.
Rule #2: If it's an offense mistake, its always Dalton, Gresham, or Smith at fault
Rule #3: If it's a defensive mistake, its always Rey M, or Dre K at fault.

Carry on.

For some reason Gio's PFF scores have been not so good. He's been a helluva fantasy back, though.....

To be fair, number 3 seems spot-on to me.

It was a bad pass.

Knocking the ball up in the air severely compounds the problem.

Anyone disagree with either statement?

It was a shit pass, and if he throws one pick for every 84 passes we're going to the Super Bowl.....

Let me ask you a question regarding #3.

Wouldn't you assume there is something wrong with Rey also, that when your middle linebacker has to give up the QB helmet to your outside LB, because he can't direct the defense and play at the same time that there is a problem. What about when your OLB who is wearing the QB helmet gets hurt, and you have to give it to your OTHER OLB, instead of your middle linebacker instead? What happens when that OLB gets hurt also, and you as a DC are forced to give it to your backup LB because your starting LB can't grasp the system better than your entire LB core?

Trust me on this...if there is a problem with our defense, I guarantee you, Maualuga is at the head of the table on this one.

Then, of all our players on defense, there is no pick more disappointing than Kirkpatrick, who was a middle of the 1st round CB taken to help this defense, and he has done nothing but get hurt and get burnt on occasion. Rule #3 "IN GENERAL" is a good rule of thumb on where to lay blame most of the time.

At least in my opinion.

Then regarding #2. I say Dalton gets some deserved blame, but in general gets blamed for too much of the offenses issues. Gresham, I expected him to be more like Eifert when catching the ball and getting open, but he seems to drop too many passes. All in all, I am disappointed, but not thinking he needs to be benched as he can still be a very good player. Then regarding Smith, I assume you are talking about Tits. I don't know why anyone would have anything to blame on him. He is very good. Unless you are talking Alex Smith, but I think he is a good player, a role player that does his job.

#1 - I love Gio Bernard, and I love our new RB combo of Bernard and Hill. That is very exciting to have those two guys back there making this a more balanced offense than in years past. However, Gio still makes his share of mistakes. Sometimes he is not tough through the hole, he had that huge fumble in the playoff game, and sometimes he tries to make too much of nothing and it causes him to lose a couple yards he could have kept from losing.

I know you were speaking jest, and just being fun, but I feel like what you said is the way most people on this board feel in general one way or another on your points. I happen to be in the camp of #3 to be honest with you. I think in general that is a very good place to start.

#1 was sarcastic, because everyone loves Gio so much they go out of their way to blame his mistakes on others. His fumble in the playoffs was more costly than Dalton's blunders. If he didn't run 15 yards backward vs. Balt last year, we win that game. Don't get me wrong, I like him and am glad to finally have a top tier running back, but he, like Dalton is doing, needs to learn to give up on a play and live for another down. I also think they need to work Hill in more so that Gio isn't worn down/injured later on in the season, especially with the early bye.

#2 and 3 I was being serious, because when there's a mistake those 5 are the usual suspects. Yes I meant Tits. Although he has come a long way and probably should be taken off the blame list. In years past, he was good for one false start and holding penalty per game. As for Dre, and fragile as he is, and as shitty as he is on defense, is actually surprisingly good on special teams. But not exactly a goal for a first round draft pick to be a good gunner.

In order to wear the helmet on defense, it helps if you are a 3 down player. That's why Burfict wears it and that's why Lamur took it this past game. Both play all three downs. Rey does not play on obvious passing downs -- And for good reason.

But riddle me this.... How does an NFL MLB have 4 tackles in his first two games?

Damn. I knew he's been near invisible but didn't know he's been that bad. Always had hope Rey would at least be a top half echelon MLB one day. I think we have him locked up for 2 more seasons also if I remember right.

I thought he was pretty good in spots last year. This year he seems invisible.... It also seems like we've had a few runs that weren't defended right - I can't be the judge of who did or did not do their assignment (I'm a draft expert not a defense expert), but I'd be willing to bet Rey has fairly low PFF scores.

He only played about 20 snaps per game the first two weeks. They were in nickel most of the time in those games.

Good point about Maualuga.

Pretty pathetic. Not on the field enough to warrant wearing it, and also because he can't grasp the defense well enough to make the adjustments. I remember several times in training camp, either last year or this year where Maualuga and Burfict were debating on who was right on a certain call, and Maualuga was wrong every time.

I remember back in the day when they were at USC, I was torn on who to take in the 1st round between Maualuga and Mays. LOL God I was retarded. I thought they were can't miss prospects. When we got Maualuga in the 2nd, I was like HOLY CRAP WE ROCK! Then we traded the year after for Mays and I was like, HOLY CRAP!

Mays has been much better as a coverage LB, which he rarely gets to do now that we have Lamur. Maualuga had a decent season last year, but not anywhere close to the player I was hoping for, and very disappointed in his ability to lead a defense.
